Alright, I’m in with the Italeri 1/35 Sd.kfz. 234/3 8-rad.
Bish, thanks for lettin’ me in! [Y] It’s shaping up to be a great GB, and I’m definitely pumped for it. Figuring I’ll learn a lot from you guys, as it’s been at least two decades since I built anything in 1/35 scale.
Greg, got you on the roster, glad to have you on board.
Mike, given the amount of help you have given to others, me included, in building WW1 Aircraft, I hope we can return the favour.
Bish sign me up with Academy’s 1/35 Stug IV 75mm. Not sure which unit but I have markings for an SS division.
Welcome aboard shiv, I have you on the roster.
hey bish. would the VERSUCHSFLAKWAGEN 88mm PZSFL-IVC work? i think they only made 2 and i really need to focus on doing modern warwheels and fire trucks (yea right, i’m lucky if i can stay with just vehicles) but this thing is sitting in my study staring at me and it is sooooo cool. and i already know how to build an 88 as do you and eagle.
wayne, does it have the Flak 37 or Flak 41 guns. From what I know, there were 3 prototypes, originally armed with Flak 37’s. In 44 they were re armed with 41,s but then one was changed back to a 37 and this was send to Italy, so that would not qualify. But I am not sure what happened to the other 2. I will do some digging into that.
I can count on 1 hand the number if tracked vehicle kits I’ve done so will prolly be asking alot of questions. First, the kit I have comes with vynal treads. Since the Stug IV was built on a panzer IV chasis would the same tracks be used as that of the Panzer?
Shiv, yes, tracks from a later model Panzer IV would work. I take it your thinking of replacing them.
I’ll be asking a lot of questions as well Shiv, I’ve only built 1 AFV so I’m completely in the dark.
you are quite the storehouse of useless information. i can relate to that. the box says its a FLAK 41. and it’s, dare i say it, a tracked vehicle. oh the horror. how will i live down the embarrassment? BUT IT IS AN SPAA AND COOL LOOKING. indy tracks with a pin on each side.
If the vinyl tracks look decent i would stick with them. The side skirts will hide the top run so you dont have to worry about doing track sag, which is quite east to do BTW, it sits on the bottom run and vinyl tracks can be dirtied up nicely. JUST DONT OVER RUST THEM. I would save that money for a TIGER or PANTHER where the entire track is visible. Of course i say that sitting here getting ready to base coat a 4x6 truck and a 37mm AA gun.
[:D] Ain’t I just. It is rather cool looking.
Thought I would bump this one up and remind everyone we are exactly 2 weeks from D-day. The Allies seems to be getting all of the lime light (who says German armour gets all the attention) so I need to try and re dress the balance and get things back in their proper order.
Hey Bish,
Would you please go ahead and put me down with the Dragon 1/35th Ersatz M10? Now that I’ve got some more stuff pushed out of the way I’m hoping I’ll be able to start her if not on the official start date at least not too much later.
Cliff
O, nice. be glad to see this one built. I am curious about the colour this should be. I am taking a guess that it would not be the same OD that the Allies used, or would that be wrong.
The kit looks good in the box, if it goes together as well as the Tiger it should be a quick and easy build.
I thought I’d hit her with a slightly ‘off’ shade of olive drab. Can’t see much weathering on these vehicles though since they didn’t last very long.
No, not a lot of wear and tear. I wasn’t sure if the Germans would have used one of their own greens or reproduced OD, which I guess would not have been to difficult.
Not sure, I read an article years ago, not sure if it was in FSM or elsewhere about a guy who modified a Panther with scratchbuild parts before the Dragon kit came out. He mixed up some paint, I may have to search for the article though I think he just added some green or something to the OD paint just so was a touch off.
I’ll probably just try painting the thing like the box cover painting- it looks ‘right’ to me.
Bish,
I would like to get in on this GB with this 88 Flak 36/37. My WWII knowledge is iffy at best. My historical basis for this is operation Market garden and the defense of Nijmegen. I have found reference to the German defense from what is called “the traffic circle” with “an anti-tank gun” in one place, and “… an 88-mm gun on the traffic circle” in another. I have not found (yet) more specific information on the gun.
If you don’t think this is an appropriate kit, let me know.
