ARMOR - Towed Gun Group Build (ends 7/1/04)

Here’s a new idea for a group build – a towed gun build. This can be with or without figures, with or without transport. The gun should be circa 1900+, preferably, so that it’s roughly in line with the “Armor” period of the forum.

Any scale! Any nationality! Hopefully the unusual suspect will lead to more unusual items like “small wars” artillery (Caucasus, the recent Balkans Wars, etc.) or Italian or Japanese artillery.

To keep the theme in line, here are some restrictions:

  1. No SPA
  2. No railguns
  3. No fixed guns (fortress guns, ship’s guns, etc.)

The “gun” can be AAA, howitzer, field gun, anti-tank, etc… For missles, let’s draw the line at “gunlike” tube-fired missles like Nebelwerfers instead of things like Scuds.

The transport can be any kind of truck or other prime mover, jeep or whatever pulled a gun. Having a tank or other AFV pull it is cheating! [:)]

Duration: Let’s start on April 1 and end on July 1. This puts it comfortably after the Sherman build.

I haven’t decided what I’ll do yet. Candidates are ICM’s 100mm gun plus Serbian truck for Kossovo (fighter bomber bait!), or a Russian WWII traktor plus 210mm gun, those funky giant guns with the treads.

But there are so many nice gun models and so many great transports, it’s going to be hard to choose. I guess the classic choice is 88mm plus SdKfz 7, but why be a classic when you can be an innovator?

Happy modeling.

Sounds great. Don’t know if I’ll be able to with school work, but if I can I most definately will in the 1/72 [:)]! Just one question, is this all a joke (April Fools!) [(-D] [(-D] [(-D]

Larry, I like the Russian traktor with 210mm, those things are just weird. I Remember seeing them in the Battle of Berlin leveling buildings.

Count on me. I just need to get that AFV Pak88 that I saw, only problem is I’m not sure it is released as of yet. If anyone knows if it has, please notify me.

I already have something in mind but I have to check the LHS if it is still there.

and this build also SCREAMS diorama

OK, I’m in. I’ll be doing some Italian stuff. 1/72, of course!

oh no…it’s started!![:0][:p]
count me in…[V][:p]
not sure what i’ll be doing…got a nebelkraftwagen, but no nebelwerfers[:(!]…who makes them in 1/35??
regards,
nick

Italeri makes a 1/35 towable nebelwerfer.

Verlinden makes a 120mm one I think. Anyone with too much money keen to go 1/16! [;)] Perhaps with a kubelwagen…

Not I, but I would like to participate, these group builds sound like fun… does everyone share at the end?

[:D] what about something small?? like a steyr raupenschlepper towing a nebelwerfer (1/35) have them both but gonna finish first the others that are started[V]

if i can i will try and get a 1/35 Australian M198 in time for April 1st, its currently out of stock [:(]

i dunno what would tow it tho, i’ll have to look around

Ok…I’M in… I have a Tamiya British prime mover. It’s gonna be a captured rig in the desert pulling a pak 40…hmmmm

Sounds like fun.

I will definately have to join. In honor of my bro Erush, I will do AFV’s German Pak 43/41[;)]

Sounds like fun, I have a KMC 7.5cm infantry gun. Don’t want to do a prime mover for it though.

thanks phroosh, now i know what to look out for.[:)]
at the end of some of the builds, all the finished builds are posted on a web page eg like the sherman group build, but for me most of the fun is everyone exchanging ideas and pics of their progress along the way.

nick

Or perhaps a 37mm PAK gun in 1/72nd? [:)]

Actually, I’m not completely joking. I’d love to see an tiny, intricate little gun all done up and superdetailed. Heck, I may do it myself.

I ma even do a diorama with an entire battery of artillery deployed (say, a British battery in the Western Desert) using the beautiful GHQ 1/285th scale models …

By themselves, I wouldn’t really consider building one of them to be “modeling,” but a whole battery, in a diorama, I think would be. Thoughts? I started this, so I don’t want to be the heretic. [:)]

I’ll try and find a gun to build in time for April 1st!

**Larry :**Can the gun be set up to fire ( being supplied by the truck ,etc. , or does it have to be towed by the vehicle ?

i’d probably join , i’ve been looking for the afv club pak 43/41to build after i finish my panther so it would probably fit the timeframe (my panther is behind schedule right now probably finish around end of feb/early march)

You don’t even have to do the vehicle. [:)] It can be deployed or ready for towng, with our without its transport!

I guess I should have said April 3 or something – April 1 carries a certain connotation. I proposed 4/1 because it was two weeks after the end of the Sherman build.

So … the M35 would be acceptable for this build as the prime mover then … correct??

hmmm … now you got me thinking !!!
