Hi folks, I don’t usually venture over to the armor section, but I need some help.
I have a picture that shows an Me 323 transport steel structure loaded to the gills with german vehicles and guns.
I’d like to include this huge cargo load inside my Gigant, but I don’t know what any of these vehicles are. So, what are they? Are they available in 1/72? Thanks for all your help, I’ll probably be over here a bit more, since I don’t know the first thing about armor modeling.
The left half track is a Sdkfz 10 Demag 1-ton tractor, followed by a Kfz 15 Horch medium car with a 5cm Pak 38 gun. Dunno if they’re kitted in 1/72 however.
Roy, looking at the muzzle, could it possibly be a 75mm Pak 97/38 using the French 75mm? It doesn’t look like the usual gun muzzle seen on 75 and 50 mm guns.[%-)] I bow to your picks on the rest of the vehicles.
The giveaway that it’s not a Pak 97/38 is the recoil sled along with the barrel length. The PaK 97 was a rechambered Schneider gun and the recoil sled is totally different.
There also is a motorcycle and side-car combo loaded in their too sidewise, although hard to tell for sure what type. Packed to the gills is right!
I agree with Roy at 100%. The 50mm PaK 38 barrel has a tapered shape, as seen in the picture up above. The 75mm PaK 97/38 barrel looks made in section, has definitive edges along it.
I’ve done a bit of hunting, and in 1/72 the only company I can find that makes any of these is Ace Plastic Models. They appear to be a decent kit manufacturer, what do y’all think? I typically build 1/48 and 1/72 prop jobs, so these would be my first vehicles. I don’t want any 500 piece Dragon kits, at least not just yet…[xx(]
Airfix is still making their venerable old kit of the Opel Blitz towing a Pak 40, or their SDKfz 7 towing an 88. The Academy WW2 ground vehicles set will get you a Kubelwagen and Kettenkrad.
