Crossracer recently posted pics of his Tamiya Centaur and in that thread Dwight raised the question of whether anyone was interested in a British Armour Group Build. There are a lot of GB’s lined up a present, but I’m game for one that will be a little different from the usual German or Sherman based builds. How about anyone else?
GB is a go. The rules are:
Main Theme: Any British or Commonwealth designed and Manufactured Armoured vehicle, softskin vehicle, Artillery (SP or towed ) or Figurines of any soldier in British or Commonweath uniform.
Period of operation: WW1 to modern day
Scale: Any
Build type: Can be Out of the Box or Modified
Markings: To be of a British or Commonwealth (at the time that is, so Indian regiments during WW2 are okay) vehicle, gun, etc.
Medium: Any (Plastic, Resin or other all okay)
Start Date: 17 September 2004
End Date: 31 December 2004

My suggestion is that it should include only locally produced armor (or softskins if necessary). I think we should exclude imports like the Sherman, Lees/Grants and Stuarts (no offense to Sherm for I somehow know that another GB dedicated to that old reliable is in the works. Right Sherm?[;)])
There are a lot of possible kits for this build. Tamiya alone has the Cromwell, Churchill, Matilda, Centaur and some softskins. I am not sure about the other companies but I think there are a lot of options out there.
Thanks Dwight, seems we are pretty much on the same wave length re British designed and made. (Were you feeling a little guilty about something when you saw your name, or is that just your normal level of Paranoia?). We should encourage Jon (Captain Caveman) to commit and finish a GB too (He, he - are you reading this Jon?)
I have several kits that I could do, but I’m thinking of doing the old Italeri Crusader Mk 3 or the Tamiya Centaur I have. I have the etch for the Crusader but the Centaur would be OOB (I need a break from this compulsion to superdetail everything - it takes me too long to build the kit)
Wasn’t sure of the number of guys and girls (Hey Frosty) that might buy into a WW2 basis, so I thought that maybe some of the modern AFV guys might like in on the act too. This might bring it up to worthwhile numbers - seeing as Tamiya have recently released the Chieftan and a few guys have been making some waves about the Challengers that are around. Of course there is also the mainstream AFV Club Scorpian and Scimitar for them as well. If too many guys want in, we could always split the GB into 2 ‘post WW2’ and ‘pre to WW2’
You meanies. [:D] This was just the groupbuild I would love to have gotten into, but there are so many going and I’m lagging. I’ve been wanting to do a Cromwell or Crusader for a long time. When’s Tamiya going to put out a Valentine or Crusader? Depending on your date, I may hop aboard, but I first need a kit and so on. I’d definately make the build be a British manufactured tank only. No lend lease. Just my [2c]
OK, I’m a “Yank” & I have no problem with the British (or do you mean Commonwealth) designed and built.
I would like to ensure that “armor” is just a well mis-used word for “land equipment & people”, so those of us who like trucks & big guns & soldiers, but not necessarily tanks, can get in.
I’d like to broaden my horizons and make something from the mother country Peter, so I will keep my eyes peeled for something suitably British at the stores, so in all likelihood I will be in!
i’ll probaly join!!! not sure what i’m going to build… i am building a canadian/british ww2 dio. i might build a ram kangaroo… in think we should include the sherman. In ww2 canada only used shermans and fireflys as MBTs
I"M in, i have a crusader in 1’72 that i would like to try. ALso i want to try some of the salt paint chipping method. Besides a nice change would be good. ALl those shermans and tigers are getting stale. [:D]LOL

Thanks for the support guys. Just throwing a few things around at the moment to see what the interest is but looks like we might have enough to start a WW2 British/Commonwealth Designed and manufactured build. Would be looking to do this in a few months time after the current DDay and Normandy GB’s and the proposed Stug and Panzer 4 GB’s are done, as a lot of guys, including some of you, have shown interest in those. Maybe kick it off Friday 17 September as a tribute to all the Brit paratroops that hung in there at Arnhem 60 Years before. (Kinda like some of us hanging in there to finish our own, way past due date, GB’s ) and run it to say Christmas to cater for stragglers - other date ideas anyone?

John R (Jratz) armour means anything land based. I mentioned the 25 pounder but if you want to do an AEC Matador, Austin, Bedford, Canadian Chevrolet or Ford CMP, 17 or 6 pounder A/T, 5.5 inch artillery piece, Figurine, etc, etc, etc - as long as it fits the British Commonwealth Designed and Made we should be okay with it.
T34. A Ram based Kangaroo sounds great. Would love to see it, so you got my vote for that.
Tigerman - Tamiya Valantine or Crusader? When people stop buying Tigers, and Panthers, and Shermans, and… Tamiya should do a Comet or at least the AA version of the Cromwell - wouldn’t take much . If anyone was to do it it is more likely Dragon will be the best bet to offer some more diverse stuff. Just think:
From Valentine to Bishop to Archer (hopefully a new kit not the rebadged Valentine they did)
Crusader Mk1, Mk2, Mk3, (even though Italeri is out there) with AA turret
Churchill Mk 1 through VI (even Tamiya’s VII is a bit old now). Be nice to see the 75mm support gun version. Ah dreams…

I have a couple of possibilities - it’s going to be modern stuff. Maybe a challenger or a scorpion recon if that’s okay. Let me know if you don’t want modern stuff
Matt, plenty of Matilda’s at ‘Pucka’ - and a lot closer too[:D] Built a Matilda years ago; Pretty good for it’s age - been thinking of picking another one up as my LHS has about 20 for AUD$40 and Firestorm are apparently going to do an Aussie update set soon.
Going to Blighty eh. Lucky so and so. Going to Bovington? A mate went there 4 months ago. He is still developing all the rolls of films he took - reckons one full day is nowhere near enough for us museum starved Aussies.
Build - we’ll see what group consensus is about modern , but personally I have no probs.
Did we use Matilda’s in WW2 Peter? That would be even better? Besides, my dearly departed dog was called Matilda!
Don’t know about Bovington. What end is it? I’ll be down south. I hope I can find time; I’d love to see it, but I am playing Nanny (don’t laugh) for my Niece and Nephew and am supposed to be rewiring my sisters house!
