Attn: All USN DDG gurus…
I am in the process of building Panda’s Arleigh Burke Class DDG in 1/350th, with Flagship photo etched details, and am wondering about the purpose of two objects on the main deck. On the model they are rectangular about 1" tall, 1/8" square, with a slot in them and mount between the two superstructures port and starboard. The are also angeled toward the center of the ship. Flagship has replacement parts and identifies them as “Kingposts”. Does anyone have any idea of what their purpose would be on the actual ships?

Those are “Kingposts”
On board the ship they are used for underway replenishment (UNREP). They are tilted back when stowed. And straighted up vertical for use. The slot allows for the “Highline” between the ships to move up & down to allow for ships movement, and for the “Stream Head” to lower the load to the deck after transfer. The reason for the tilt to the inboard is to reduce the radar reflection.
This is what you were asking about on the real thing.
Certainly appreciate the quick response. Back in my day aboard ship, nearly 40 years ago, they didn’t have anything so fancy.

Yes, Underway Replenishment has come a long way in the last 40 to 50 years. With the development of the “Stream” system, UNREP-ing became easier, faster, and safer.
