Good idea, always better to practice on a paint mule before the real thing.
I’ve done acrylics but lately I’m back to trying oils again on larger figures. Results have been mixed… [8-)]
Good luck, looking forward to seeing your results.

Got some time at the bench this week and started working on Minmei again.
This is what I was using to get some practice with shading and finding the shade of color I wanted for the shadows.
Added the base flesh tone. Much smoother application this time.
Added shading. A mix of flesh, purple, and scarlett.
And moved into adding highlights.
I like this more already. Still pondering the next step I’ll take.
Hey!
Ya better finish her up!, The beauty contest is up soon. She’s a winner already!
She looks good! I agree with TB- you’re on the right track!!!
Thanks TB and Gamera, I appreciate the words of encouragement. [:)]
Was applying the next coat of paint last night when without warning she came right off the holder and landed in a massive dog hairball on the floor. [snStpd]
She was recovered with her own personal dog hair coat. Not exactly fashionable.
She got a quick bath which got most of the dog hair and all of the new paint, and perhaps a little of the prior coat. [:(((]
Decided to press on and try again. It’s all about perserverance.
Haven’t checked since I set her aside to dry. Will snap some pics later today and see how good it is. Fingers crossed!
Hey Phoenix!
Fur Coats are in fashion somewhere aren’t they? Let me ask my Siamese cat . Hey! Sam! Are fur coats in fashion now? She says yes! She doesn’t know why some of the felines have to sport that “Nude” look!
LOL, You may have a point there. Purrhaps if it had been a Dalmation fur coat.
OK, so this is what she looked like after my attempts to fix the fall into the hairball.
Finding it hard to retain the shading. Going to push on and see how it goes.
With the dark lighting it’s a little hard to tell but from what I can see she looks good- best o’ luck!!!
Sorry to hear about the dog fur! Had figures fall and the head’s just pop off and spent weeks looking for them so it could have been worse! Had a Soviet tanker figure’s arm fall off about two weeks ago. Still haven’t found it. Thankfully since he’s 1/35th scale I just found a subsitute arm to replace it.
yea, I’ve been having problems getting exposure just right it. It’s either way overexposed or underexposed. The camera wants to over correct due to the lightness of the skin. I could adjust it manually but haven’t felt an strong need to do so.
Thankfully nothing broke or was damaged by the fall. She just developed a serious need to shave.
As for your tanker, I guess it’s always good to have a set of hands to spare.
Sometimes after staring at something for so long it can be hard to tell if it is going well or badly. The only solution I’ve come up with is to push on.
Minmei’s eyes, suit, and shoes have been blocked in. It’s helping to place things in perspective/context. I think the blue paint for the suit applied beautifully. Nary a brush mark.
There may have been some technical difficulties during the interim photo shoot.
…Beter check the artificial gravity setting! [:D]
Looks good! It’s amazing sometimes how blocking in the hair and clothes can bring the figure alive.
I’ll have Lt. Hayes check with gravitics control. [:)]
Progress share.
Still have eyes to complete and want to take the hair from the high gloss to satin.
Thinking the skin should be more matte as well.
Like the skin tone better than before.
She’s lookin’ great!!!
Maybe I’m weird but I like a little gloss to skin, somehow it just looks more healthy to me.
Personally I think all she needs is the eyes done and you’re done! [ht]
After adding in the eyes and a little blush to her shoulders, shins, and cheeks I have to agree with Gamera that a little gloss looks “right”.
I think I’ve taken this as far as my skills allow. Pretty happy for my first figure. Still have lots to learn when it comes to painting skin.
Thank you Tanker-Builder for your step-by-step! It was the basis for all my work. Any defficiencies are due to my novice abilities.
Enjoyed the challenge of painting this. Looking forward to trying my hand in the GB that Dodgy setup. [:)]
Oh, and painting eyes is frustrating at best. [:P]

Yeah But! Putzenwerfer, I didn’t read afore I posted, Carry on!
Ya did it. See, ya gotta jump off the pier ta swim. Looks very nice. Can I make only one comment, I am not criticising your work either! This is an add. Take a very soft rag with some clear flat and wipe over the skin areas to diffuse the shine a little. Oh, and while your at it give yerself a back pat! The eyes look alright to me for a first timer, Ya shoulda seen my first one!
PhoenixG, have you seen the Plamax Minmay, based on the last scene from the Macross movie? It might make a nice companion to your TV version.
