Hi,
Can anybody out there assist me in converting a DC 6B in to an Argonaut, as used in the Royal Rhodesian Air Force.
I believe that many years ago the conversion (To a North Star similar) was shown in a Model Magazine, name unknown at this stage.
A friend had the information, but I have lost contact with him.
Any assistance would be appreciated, either through this forum or direct to me at ndege@dodo.com.au.
Cheers and all the best in modeling,
Darryl[:D][:D][:D][:D]
First of all … Welcome to FSM Darryl !!!
[#welcome]
As for your question, I will be of no help at all being a lowly treadhead. But if you post this same question in the A/C forum, someone there may come to your rescue.
Enjoy the forums !!
Hi Robert,
Thanks for the information, as I am new to this, I am still trying to find my way around the system.
Where is the A/C Forum ???
Cheers,
Darryl
Darryl:
Sorry for the late reply, but I’vwe been away hobnobbing with polar bears for a week. Like Robert, welcome to the community!
There is one place you might try, but they are not on line so you’ll have to write or phone. They are an outstanding hobby shop run by an ex-RCAF navigator who may have what you need.
“Argus Hobby Shop, #5 - 2082 Ness Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada”
Their phone number in Canada is 204-837-7677.
The above is off a Google search of business names. If this doesn’t work out, then what Robert says, try reposting in the Aircraft forum.
Regards,
Bruce
Darryl;
Just saw your latest post, I replied at the same time …
To find the aircraft forum, click on the forum index and then modelling subjects. Aircraft live in there.
Good luck,
Bruce
Hi,
I don’t know whether you will be monitoring this site or whether you will have moved over to the aircraft forum but I’ll give it a shot.
I will be of limited help but it may be of some use to you. I have come into contact with the same aircraft but it was known in Canada as the North Star. A number of years ago (over 10) there was a company which sold resin Rolls Royce engines for the DC-4M through FSM. Sorry, can’t remember anything else about them.
I do know that the Heller DC-6 had to have the fuselage shortened both ahead of and behind the wing. Not being able to come up with an aftermarket engine pod, the nearest (and it is reasonbly near) RR engine for this application is that from the Avro Shackleton. The Lanc engines are nowhere near big enough.
There also were two window configurations. The RCAF aircraft had oval fuselage windows…others were the usual rectangle. If you’re lucky, your version will be able to use the DC-6 windows instead of filling them in and recutting ovals…very time consuming.
If you are not wedded to the 1/72 concept, there is a vac-form kit of the DC-4M produced by Welsh Models in 1/144th. It is a pretty good representation.
I hope this is of some use to you. If you would like more specific details and see some pictures of the one I built I welcome your interest. My email address is: snobrd13@rogers.com Cheers, Mike
Darrly;
Ten years ago, almost to the day, I sent a letter and photos to FSM about a 1/72 nd scale DC-6 I converted into a Canadair North Star DC-4M-2. I will send this letter to you to your e-mail address. Regarding the engines, I had to buy a resin vacuum formed kit of a 1/72nd Avro Lincoln to duplicate the engines. The cross-over exhausts and shrouds were plastic stock. The magazine featuring an RCAF north Star was FSM March '93. I will scan it and send it to you if you need it…Same for photos of the completed model.
Finding decals was a real bear! I had to settle for Trans-Canada Air Lines (original name of Air Canada) decals from a 1/96 scale Viscount made by (I think) Glencoe.
Any help I can render, let me know, here or to my e-mail, aryan@socal.rr.com

Darryl;
I attempted to e-mail you as promiced in my above reply, but the server couldn’t get thru. Is your e-mail correct as you posted it on your original letter?
