Are you in the History for the airplanes or Amour?

I just want to know…Because I really love the history. History its my hobby, You know the books.

I’m a newbee. I started in Fathers Day(My wife got me a an Airbrush) Its Kewl[^]. Im into the Luftwaffe right now. I have learned more the planes and people, the Aces especially. If learned more of the E-3 to a G-6! I new about the Messershmitt & Focke Wulf then but I didnt care… But know …it is so Kewl![:p] . Undbelievable! Especially the paint! Yikes![;)][2c]

Kewl it is, EasyCo!
I reckon it’s both for me. That is, I’m equally fascinated by both the history and the machines.
And you’re absolutely right; that Luftwaffe paint is very interesting!

Like Brian, I’m interested in both the history and the machines. The ‘history’ bit brings in the human element that not only design, build and use the machines, but so often use them in ways, in places, in times not anticipated by the original designers. It’s a great ‘combined’ hobby.

Research is what kills (in the case of lack of info!) or makes a model come to life.

EasyCo - Welcome to the Forum and to modeling!
Since I started doing research for my Lutwaffe models, I find myself buying and reading books about it more than building my models! Actually, the two feed on themselves (reading and building).
If you’re into Luftwaffe, here’s a link you might enjoy www.luft46.com .
Send us some pics of your models.

Regards, Stinger

Yes your so right! Especially the colors! Or the cockpit or wheel wells…[banghead] I dont trust the museam. it seems the museam "slap in the paint! " Ive got a book from the Jane’s book(Messershmitt Bf-109). There is no colors! none, zero! I can tell you the G-0 to a G-14…But no colors…frustrantion.

Stinger, Thank you! Ive got my site, look for the signature.

Machines are just the tools , the main objective of learning history is not to repeat the mistakes of the past and understand the present thus predicting the future.
A bit pompus but true still.

im into both the history and the modeling. Like the other posts above, when doing research I tend to read more than I really have to. You end up finding something out that you really never knew , or would make your modeling interesting. But also, learning the history, tends to give more life to the models, men, and machines. It also allows me to learn and somewhat experiance what alot of these men went through. Especially the stories of the bomber crews. They are always so vivid in their descriptions of what happened. soemtimes its almost like your there with them when the fighters come rattling in. It certainly makes me appreciate more what Im building and why Im building it.

I too am into both the history and the building. Modeling allows history to come “alive”. We read the books and see the pictues but building the models adds the 3D element and betters our understanding.

I’d say both the history and the machines. Only most of my interest are ships, airplanes and sci-fi.

hey my hobbies is hisry too im going to SFU to learn about the war and if all works out a masters in history!!
and to answer your question my best freinds grandfather was the leading engineer for designing the radar on the F-15 eagle!

As much as I love history and it’s connections to my modeling, I find that I’m more interested in modeling things that I’ve seen, not limited to aircraft. While I have done planes I’ve seen at airshows, I also model my cars (and my girlfriend’s car) and I will soon begin working on a model of my house.

I often find that the history drives the modelling.

Having read about something, I often find I want to model the machines involved.

I finds it adds to the enjoyment of the build.

Karl

It’s both for me, history and machines.

I really enjoy doing the research, on a piece that I want to build. I don’t mean just trying to find pictures of how it looked but more of who and how it was used.

I think it makes it more personal that way.

I love the history part of it. My girlfriend calls me a history buff, but you can have so much fun learning while your building. Ever since my dad started me out on my first model its has been a life long love affair with it. And when my girlfriend says you spend alot of money on it I just tell her i could be doing other things like drug or drinking [:D] lol.
