Are there ANY B-29 builders out there?

This is my B-29 in the middle of it’s 4th rebuild.
It’s had so many because it’s been around since the late 70’s,
and has seen it’s share of “combat damage”.
I’m thinking this will become my “Kee Bird”, and will join my
“Enola Gay”, some time this spring.

This bird has had the markings of the “Enola Gay”, “FiFi”, an unnamed
O.D./neutral gray a/c, and “Double Exposure”
Hi can only hope this will be it’s final scheme.

Let’s hope it has better luck than the original Kee Bird. Two crashes, one hurt, one destroyed. I can’t even imagine the agony of Darryl Greenameyer and his crew when that plane caught fire after all their work.

One of these days, I’ll make room so I can attach the wings to the fuselage. One of these days . . .

(it’s the 1/48 Monogram kit, and yes, that’s a Betty Grable poster in the sleeping quarters [;)] )

Good luck on the re-build. The only B–29 I’ve done was the Minicraft/Academy 1/72 kit. Can’t imagine doing the 1/48 Monogram. Just too big for my space.

Pix, don’t close that up!!! The detail is outstanding!!

I will only build 72nd bombers because of lack of space.
I have the 2 atom bombers to build (Enola Gay and Bock’s Car), but the strat is nearly finished (Pan Am) - lovely alclad !
All academy , of course.
I would love to do the entire b24/29/50 and c/kc97 collection , but space is the enemy !
Even the beloved TSR2 will have to be in 72nd scale, but I will build a camo and an A/R white one too !.

The last one I built was in 1982. It too was the 1/48th scale version. Unfortunately, it “crashed” last year when the fishing line holding it broke. I saved all of the parts and have it in “storage” while I decide how to rebuild it. I am fortunate enough to have one more unbuilt to start over with when I choose to tackle it. Good luck on what ever you decide to do with yours.

I have the Airfix 1/72 Superfortress but don’t have any room to display it at the minute
(surprise, surprise), so won’t be building it until then!

However I recently picked up the Academy (ex-Crown I think) 1/144 B-29 and will probably be building
this in the near future. It’s not quite as impressive and detailed as the larger-scale ones but is a lot
easier to find the space for

I’d like to build the Monogram/Revell 1/48 kit as well, as I love huge, detailed models, but since I don’t
even have space for a 1/72 one at the minute, this will have to wait until I build an extension to my house!

Alternatively, I may install some wires on the ceiling to suspend larger models from - this would allow me to display some of my larger models more effectively . Though a 1/48 heavy bomber might be too heavy to safely display in this manner (my B-24 weighs an absolute ton)

Another thing - to oggy4624, did you know that Airfix will be releasing a 1/72 injection-moulded kit of the TSR-2 this year? (late summer, maybe August from what I’ve heard). No idea when it will reach the US though, but I know that I’ll be getting one as soon as it’s out here in the UK (though normally I rarely buy new kits)

Pixilater, that detail is AMAZING!

I currently have a project I am expecting to last about 2 years, which involves 4 yes I said 4 1/48 B-29 Superfortresses in a China Lake Graveyard scene. My most ambitious and largest project to date.

wasnt the interior detail on that B-29 you did wasnt that last year well I have both the 1/48 scale and 1/72nd scale B-29’s well the 1/72nd scale B-29 is the Academy kit and its half finished havent even started the Revel/Monogram 1/48 scale B-29 yet but im going to want to do it as a WWII B-29 so I will need to get some After Market Decals also have the Revell B-24 in 1/48 scale and the Revell B-52 in 1/72nd scale.

vintage: NOW, that’s what I’m talking about!!

You have GOT to post pictures of ANY kind, of this project.
Sounds fantastic!!

Is one of them going to be “Doc”, by any chance?

Leon.

usaf ssgt-I have not decided if I am going to do any specific B-29s yet or just make up tail numbers and nose art, But If I did do 4 specific aircraft one of them would probably be Doc.

Nice birds - both pixi and usaf. You have both encouraged me to find time to build the one I just bought off e-Bay. Unfortunately the decals have been a little damaged. They may be salvageable, but I am not holding my breath. So if anyone can point me in the direction of some Enola Gay decals in 1/48, I would be much appreciative [;)]

Where to put it is the question… My B-29 is in the attic. Will likely need an overhaul when I get it out of there. Might have some old pics here… ahh yes… Here’s what it used to look like…

Now imagine it covered in dust and mouse droppings… poor thing.
