Are the cheaper Tamiya kits any good?

Hello.
I noticed that some of the Tamiya kits are quite expensive, while some are quite cheap (price wise)
are those cheaper kits any good? are they still the standard Tamiya fair?

The cheap ones are usually very old kits (although some of the expensive ones are too). They definately aren’t up to modern standards, but they can make a nice (and cheap) change of pace.

Think of the old saying “you get what you pay for”. The cheaper kits are of the much older variety, many with motorized holes in the bottom. Many aren’t bad, just not up to todays expected standard.

When it comes to spending my money…cheap is good[:D]. Seriously, though, with all the money I need to spend on paint and sanding films and other tools, I don’t mind if I have a few kits that aren’t up to modern “tooling” standards.

Basically those are OK. I have built a few “oldies” from Tamiya and I can say that you can still make decent models out of them.
