Applying Dry Transfers on Rough "Cast" Tank Turret

If my T34 turret has a bit of a rough “cast” texture, is there anything I should do to ensure the dry transfers will stick to it properly?

I just ordered a set of dries and will be applying them for the very first time ever. Any feedback greatly appreciated.

Have you considered applying the dry transfers to clear decal paper, over coating them and then apply as a regular decal[?]
