Apply zimmerit over primer or after primer?

I am going to add Eduard zimmerit to my Panther A. I have not attached anything to the outside of the hull. Do I CA the zimmerit first and then prime after completed construction? Should the zimmerit come after the prime? Does zimmerit gets the same base paint and weathering as the rest of the tank?

Thanks!

Leddy

All “Yes”.

edit…OOPS! Sorry–(and thanks wing_nut! [:I]) I meant FIRST glue the zimm down, then prime and paint and weather…

Doog you’re gonna make the guy nuts. The 1st one you got him gluin’ then primin’… then you got him primin’ then gluin’. I am guessing you’re for the glue 1st then prime. Seems the way to go.

Definitely want to attach the zim first then paint. CA doesn’t work nearly as well on a painted surface vs. the bare plastic.

… and dont forget to give it a good sand on both plastic and PE surface that you want to glue it together.

It will give an extra grip for the CA glue.

Doog, Wing_Nut, WBill and Carves,

Thanks for your guidance. It was very helpful.

Not nuts but “slightly imbalanced”

yeah well join the club[:D]

The CA worked great with small pieces of zimmerit but I thought I’d use 5 minute epoxy for the larger pieces. HOW do you apply epoxy ? With a brush? Is it mixed 50/50 with epoxy and hardener?

Thanks!

Leddy,Yes you mix most if not all epoxies 50/50.I apply mine using either disposable brushes or tooth picks. You can use the edge of the tooth pick to spread it out thinly over the area you wish to cover.Be prepared to clean up the ooze that will come out the edges after you press your zimmerit in place. For brushes I use the cheap white plastic Testors nylon ones.Good luck with your project.
