I have buy a hasagawa 1/48 kit of the AH-64A apache IDF . I din’t notice there was a D version availble.
My Qeustion is. Is there a major difference between the two versions, especially the fuselage. Can I modified the hasagawa kit into a D version with aftermarket detail parts for a D version.
I want to make a model from original AH - 64D apache they are flying by the dutch airforces

The Apache D version is different than the original A version. The main difference is in the bulges that run along the fuselage. On the D model, they are much larger and longer. Also, about 1 out of every 4 D models has a radar disk mounted on top of the rotor mast. The rest of the differences are mainly internal.

I’m sure Cobrahistorian will answer up soon. He is building 3 AH-64s in 1/32 scale and is pretty much an authority on them. Pretty hard to make a D from an A and vice-versa.

Yep, Gino’s right. The major differences between the AH-64A and D is the fuselage avionics sponsons. The D model ones are considerably larger and they are not shaped identically as the ones on the A model are. The sponsons were enlarged to accomodate the added avionics systems and radar-associated gear.
Converting an A to a D is possible, but tricky. There are no aftermarket sets available to do so, so you’ve got a lot of scratchbuilding to do. I’m doing it right now with my Revell AH-64 in 1/32. It has taken quite a while to do, but I’m happy with the results.
In addition to the avionics sponsons, the position lights have been moved from the wingtips to the engine nacelles; low-airspeed sensor arms have been added to the nacelles as well; and the cockpit interior is completely different.
Hasegawa has recently released an AH-64D kit in 1/48, and from what I know, it is the best Apache kit available.
