Since modelers are willing to buy Black Box cockpits off Ebay for $106, why not own a real piece of aviation history and put a REAL Pratt & Whitney R-2800-31 engine in the middle of your living room!! Oil stains on the carpet are guaranteed and are free, no extra charge!!!
You might think I’m joking…but I have a 1942 built R-2800-31that I’m looking to get rid of…
Anyone have a PV-2 they’re restoring???
There’s one catch, you have to come to New Jersey to pick it up, I’m not moving this heavy [censored] any more.
I wonder if the Mid Atlantic Air Museum would be interested. An R-2800 isn’t on our wanted items list, but you never know. The guy I would have gotten you in contact with passed away rather suddenly late last year, but if you drop a note using this contact information – http://www.maam.org/comm.html – I bet you’ll get a response one way or the other.
Been there, done that. We brought one up from Tulsa last spring for a Beachcraft that lost an engine and landed at the airport. That was a mother to hoist and install without the right equipment. We used a forklift. Almost lost the prop off the trailer too. That would have been a costly accident.
I’ll ask my wife??? Although she protested when I brought home an engine for my Honda Civic and left it in the back yard. Would make an interesting lawn ornament. The guy down the street has a boat anchor, I could have an airplane engine.
I like those ideas. But it’s my wifes car, she got a little fidgiddy when I put the supercharger on it and the stinger muffler.
I bet IT would make a good leaf blower. We also have a C150 that needs and engine, wonder if our A&P will sign for it[(-D]
Jeff, your just going to have to build a 1:1 scale Corsair or Hellcat for IT and take it to the next Nationals.
Scott
This would make for one BIG coffee table. When you lay her on end, she’s about 7 feet tall!!
Drew, no reason to apologize, you had no idea that NJAHOF and MAAM don’t get along. I did know Pete well, and he is missed. Since you’re local (at least for those of us who fly) chances are we’ll hook up at one of these shows (PennCon) and I’ll tell you the story over a beer.
If I bought it would I get access to the toys…errrr…planes in your museum? I would probably have to hock the house, truck and cats to afford it, but something like this would probably be worth the argument with my wife (honest honey, it followed me home, can I keep it?) I honestly would love having it in my shop. It would look good next to the F-105 parts I have.
It would make one hellacious lawnmower/snowblower/tiller/weedeater/pencil sharpener…a million and one uses. I’d like to have it just to annoy the neighbors when I crank it up!!![:D][:D][:D]
