A year or so ago I wanted to build Monogram’s 1/48th scale B-29, but was bummed to see that it was out of stock. I’m happy to learn that Revell-Monogram plans soon to re-issue the kit, and I’m really happy that they’re not going to try to rip us off by having Revell’s German subsidiary do it at twice the price with hardly any changes (as they did with the reissued B-36).
Here’s my question. R-M, on its website, has provided MINIMAL data on what’s in the kit. I suppose that’s on purpose, but I was wondering if any of you know if the kit is in any way going to be different from the old kit? Will there be a choice (as with the original kit) of doing the kit as from a conventional unit, or as one of the nuclear birds (Enola Gay, Bock’s Car)? Just wondering. I probably will buy the kit, but am wondering if this re-issue will mark any kind of departure from the previous version. Thanks, Terry
It’s the same ol’, same ol’. Same kit it always has been. I’ve heard that they have at least added the correct propellers this time so you can build something other than the Enola Gay. It is a reasonable kit but you will see a price tag of $40.00. Due to it’s uniform cylindrical shape it is easy to rescribe if you insist on recessed panel lines. I built one from the last reissue and it looks just fine with the raised lines.
From what I hear it’s the same ole kit but different box art, sorry to break the bad news, but if you want to make it a really nice kit there are after market detail kits out there to try
Its doubtful they’ll ever change it. When its the only game in town, it will sell. There’s no incentive, financially, for them to invest in re-tooling. The management probably wouldn’t let them do it anyway. Gotta wait for a new manufacturer for a new kit.
I built one a few years back and I seem to remember the aft compartment having bunks. From all the references that should be where the auxiliary generator should be. I really enjoyed the build though, BIG kit. Bob
about the b-29 i finally built the kit that i had since it first came out in the 70,s after surviving two moves in the air force i built the thumper version hey build it as a tu-4 bull that we gave our so called russian buddies only difference is the gun,s they love those nr 23,s later kevin morrison
The APU was located behind the aft pressurized compartment. If you look into the aft crew entrance door you would see the APU to your left and to the port side of the aircraft… right in front of the internals for the gun turret. Im also wanting to say that the fire control computers were located in this area too.
Dont quote me on this but I believe this rerelease will have Korean war markings… plus the Hamilton-Standard Hydromatics that others have mentioned.
Yes Hamilton Standards! Wouldn’t that be nice…It’s sort of difficult to build a non-509th ship with Curtis Electrics. there was, at one time a conversion kit with the Andy Gump nacels that came with Ham Standards…I was told it is no longer available and the only place that I knew where it was available was England…

i was tail gunner pn B29s during korean bit. I never saw bunks in the aft section could be because we had WAF gun camers repair gals in the outfit but there ws a aux power plant, it was one of my jobs to gas it up
Please don’t ask me where I heard/read/saw this but I thought I heard that the re-issue of the B-29 was going to be one with Korean War markings. Wish I could remember where I heard that. If it were true then that would be cool! The different props would be a nice touch. Now how about adding some dropped flaps?
