I just bought the Italieri F/A 18 Hornet in 1/48 scale. I took a look at the decals and decided to get a Leading Edge set for the 433 sqn 50th anniversary plane.
I was just wondering if someone could tell me something about this kit, like if its worth using these great decals on it[;)] one thing i noticed was that you have to cut the landing gear doors to show it on the ground, not really a huge deal, but are there any other nasty surprises lurking in that box?
or should get a different one and just use the kit decals?
heres what the decals depict: http://www.quebecairforce.com/falcon/Album/RichardGirouard/CF-18-433-50years.jpg
thanks for any info!
I don’t know about the 48 scale kit but i did the 72 scale kit and like most hornet kits , it doesn’t exactly fall together. It sounds like my kit was scaled down from the 48 scale kit which could mean yours may not be an overly pleasant build. Does yours have raised or recessed panel lines?
If it were me I’d go ahead and use the decals as you would still have a great looking model with a little bit of work. I used Leading Edge 425 Sqn 60 th anniversary markings on my 72 scale kit and it looks great. Of course the big question is are you trying to build a contest winner? Hope this helps.
yeah, it has recessed lines, I think I may as well just use it and see how she looks when I’m done, Maybne I’ll get to it this year sometime. Talk to you later
Matt,
If you don’t get many responses here, I suggest going over to ARC and looking for posts by Colin K. He’s built a ton of F-18s and pretty much knows them inside and out (also uses Leading Edge decals alot too.)
