Anyone heard of....

21st Century Toys?

I was in Wal-Mart today, and I stopped by the pitiful model aisle to see if they’d added any inventory besides a few Revell kits. I was shocked to see two new kits- a Macchi 202 and a Zero, in 1/32nd scale- for less than $10!

They were produced by 21st Century Toys, but I find no mention of these kits on their website.

The kits were open for examination (the parts were in a sealed bag). For a $10 kit with a no name manufacturer (or no name I’d heard of) the detail wasn’t bad considering the size. The plastic almost looked to be resin by it’s color, but I doubt it was. It came with several screws to join the fuselage halves together, but also needed glue. It had water slide decals, markings for a few aircraft. The instructions were simple- parts and numbers, no narrative.

I’m half tempted to buy one just to see how it turns out. They have pictures ont eh box of a Corsair and some other kits. I bet the holes for the screws could be easily filled.

Anyway- anyone ever build one?

Next time you’re in Walmart- check it out.

I bought my son a M4A3 Sherman that they make for Christmas. It is diecast, prepainted and had no decals. It screwed together and had some small items (barrels, backpacks, and whatnot) that could be glued on the body. It also came with 2 figures. It looks good and has a lot of detail but it was just a screw/snap together kit. I havent seen any planes by them though, just armor.

Seems like everybody found these about the same time – the same topic came up the first time (I think) on Christmas Eve. Here’s the link to the thread:

Well- for $20 I’ll go ahead and take my chances on both kits. If I get 'em home and decide I don’t want them- Walmart takes everything back! LOL

Here you go Jon this guy over at LSP completly rebuilt his 1/18 F4-U

That’s really cool! Thanks for posting that link. I doubt if I’d go that far, but it’s good to see what can be done.

I just saw these at the local Walmart, they had the C.202 i think and a Zero. Opened one up to look at it, not many parts at all. If you do get one and build it, keep us updated,I may try one out as well!
