Nice! I hope you had a good time like I did! Maybe next year haha. Which subjects did you submit?
yeah, it was great fun. I had two dioramas. Both are in the dio section here.
C.
Sweet! Which ones were they? I was super impressed by all the dioramas
Harry,
So which models did you bring? You gotta toot your horn for the wins!
I brought my ANA 737-500 Super Dolphin, a paper craft VF-1J Super Valkyrie, my HG GN-D Apollyon, an HG HMT Zaku II “Fairy Leader,” and that custom Zeta I finished up the morning of (at 2 lol)! Most of those have a thread somewhere else on here, but I’ll just post some photos so you don’t have to search the depths of the forum threads haha
I still have to take better photos of the 737 and the Zeta! The Zeta is technically “done,” but I have plans for a better base & diorama as well as finishing up a custom hyper mega launcher!
Thanks for posting your builds, Harry! And congratulations on your wins. Score!
A hyper mega launcher for your Zeta? Outstanding! I look forward to what that gonna look like!
Thanks so much! I’m going to start to continue working on that one after a little bit of time off. I’ll update the corresponding thread! Competition deadlines and grinds are a little tiring, but certainly fulfilling haha. I started leisurely working on a L-100 yesterday as my “recovery” project because a nice simple build would do me good.
You worked on your model until 2:00 am before heading out to the contest? I also have that bad habit - I worked on my last contest model through the night and finished 2 hours before I had to head to the airport. I took two unfinished models to contests and had to source materials to finish them while in the hotel. That’s a very, very bad thing to do. Don’t do it.
One of those models took over two days and sleepless nights to sort of finish. I missed out on the fun of going out shopping and seeing the contest. Plus, the model was not finished to my liking. It’s still in a box, awaiting the day for me to get back to it.
haha yea the 2 am’er was a little rough. It was mostly a couple last decals, a topcoat, final assembly and making sure everything looked good (and also fixing some scratched paint lol). Wow 2 hours before is certainly crazy!
Yeah, I try to get all my entries done at least 2 weeks before (so I can make any small changes that I would find benefit the model), but I found out about this contest super late (like 3 weeks ago), and I just wanted to use it as motivation to finish up this project! It’s been going for almost 3 years, so I’m happy to get it done! Not sure what my next big Gundam project is going to be, but I’m certainly going to do some leisurely building for a little.
For the models that you had to source materials for, I’m genuinely curious on how you finished them. Was it mostly like basing, or was it painting/decaling? I would love to see those too! They probably look phenomenal either way ahaha
Okay kids, listen up. This is NOT that way to get your model to a contest!

The fins plus a lot of the smaller detail parts had not been added when I got to the hotel. I had to do a quick oil wash and clear coat as well. It was not fun. I had to take a bunch of shortcuts and omit a lot of stuff. I didn’t have time to apply rivet decals and the paint job kinda sucked. I think this was the contest I enjoyed the least.
It looks pretty cool regardless!
