I had heard that there were efforts made for DD versions of several allied tanks, but this is the first non-Sherman one that I’ve seen.

I think the Valentine DDs were used quite widely for crew training prior to D-Day. (to get the crews
used to the DD system and amphibious landings - presumably the Sherman DDs were too valuable to risk accidentally
being sunk!)
Don’t think any of them were used operationally though.
theres somthing i have never seen before! they were problay a prototype, or used as training. or maybe the museaum wanted a dd but couldn’t get one, this happens alot with other tanks.
I found that last night also! It’s the last Val DD in existance and was restored over a 20 year period. The 'screen’s work and everything. I’m sure the link explains all of that… beautiful, isn’t it?

This isn’t a falsified project by some museum. The Duplex Drive idea was originally tested on Valentine chasses to test their viability. They were used extensively in crew training and were the prototypes for the Sherman DD series. None are thought to have been used in combat (who wants multiple experimental vehicles wading ashore on DDay?).

Ericadeane is right ! An unusual vehicle , but it was trailed prior to D-Day .If want a good site, go to the " Tank Museum , Bovington". This is a great site for AFV enthusiasts. I have been to this museum , several times , on my travels in the UK. It is a " Tankers Paradise". Plus the tank museums in Munster , Germany , Samur , in France , Kublinka, in the former USSR , and Aberdeen , in the " good old USA", have numerous AFV’s on display . You can find there sites on the Internet. In Aberdeen , they have " Anzio Annie " the railway gun , and in Kublinka , they have a " Maus" panzer , plus a " Thor" morser ! At " The Tank Museun " , in Bovington , they have a great article on the Tiger 1 , ( Tiger 131)that hase been refurbished ( it actually runs), and at Samur , they have a great article on , a late Tiger , that was used in the Normany battles .Happy modelling !

British and American tanks of WWii by Chamberlin and Ellis notes that 650 Mks III and VIII’s were converted for training but none did take part in any operations
