Anyone ever built the 1/48 Italieri F-117?

Hi all,
I had just started putting the wings onto this kit and then thought “Mmmm…I can’t put the wings onto this!” Unlike the Tamiya kit, Italieri wants me to attach the wings seperately only there are no tabs, pins or locating lugs! To get the job done, I’d have to use a whole bottle of super-glue!

Anyway, I tried to figure out another way to do it and nothing came to mind so if anyone out there came across a way to build this kit successfully, I’d be very interested to find out how you did it!

Now, where’s that Tamiya kit…[}:)]

Hey Darren! Sounds like you’ve got a handful! Is there any way to run spars through the width of the body and out into the wing roots to add some stabilization? I don’t think you’d be able to open the bomb bay if you did this as the spars would run right through the middle of it, but that’s the first option that springs to my feeble mind.

Say it with me friend: chanting Tamiya! Tamiya! Tamiya! [bow]

Sorry I haven’t had a chance to get those PE parts off in the mail to you just yet. I just bought a set of bagpipes from Canada and that sapped my coffers for a little bit. But hopefully in another couple of weeks I’ll be back in a spot where I can get those sent off. Would you be so good as to email me with your address again just to be safe?

try using dychloromethane. It’s a supeer-super glue that will not join your fingers permanently to the model. Might be a bit expensive and needs to be stored in an airtight bottle as it will evaporate, but basically, when you bring the two pieces of plastic together, run a line of he Dychlor along the join, hold together and the “glue” basically melts the two bits together.
It’s strong and better than super-glue. I fixed a heavy-duty shower holder that my wife broke with it and it’s still together, in one piece.

I use this on all my kits. You can join warped bits together, and awkward fuselage halves with just a bit of holding. Also helps to seriously cut down on those nasty gaps and bits that need to be filled.

You might get it through your pharmacy or such.

Hi Brian, this kit is more than a handful! I can’t use spars as it would mean cutting through the bomb bay so I’ve elected to build the Tamiya kit first. Work should start at the weekend and I’ve got the brass for this one. I’ll shoot you an email later.

Liam, thanks for the tip. I’ve not heard of that adhesive before so I’ll look around for it. If I’m lucky, I’ll be able to salvage the Italieri kit. Mind you, I would’nt buy another one!

Later,

Darren.
