When I use Model Master metalizer paint through my Iwata Eclipse airbrush, it acts like it clogs on me. The stuff looks water-thin straight out of the bottle to me, so I don’t bother to thin it. Could it be that it needs to be thinned, or is this just a common problem with the Eclipse airbrushes? The paint will spray for a couple of seconds and then just stop completely. I almost have to pull back on the needle all the way to get it flowing again. What gives??
Is your Eclipse a gravity feed? With gravity feed, you can try extremely low air pressure to keep from blow drying the metalizer.
I spray paint like that through a Paashe H. I have an Eclipse B. I haven’t sprayed that through mine, but I know how an Eclipse works. I’d say give that thinner that they make for the mm metalizers a try. I know metalizers are thin right out of the bottle, but I think the thinner will at least keep the lacquer wet long enough to make it to the model instead of air drying in/around the nozzle.
Plus, I wouldn’t be trying for 1-shot coverage if you use the thinner plus an Eclipse. Spray a part, give it a few seconds while you spray other stuff, then go back & give it the covering coat.
During painting, lightly swabbing the tip/needle of the Eclipse with a q-tip (soaked with the thinner) will dissolve nozzle clogs. Be careful not to put pressure on that needle with the q-tip though. Let the liquid do the work.
