Anyone do slot car bodies?

Anyone here paint scale slot car bodies? Seems to be a whole different beast when it comes to painting.
I guess you have to paint them on the inside rather then on the exterior?

Cheers,

Found a good source here. www.theslotshop.com But need some more info. I find more RC and off the shelf kit folks than anything. Is painting the bodies the same as for RC’s?

Cannot give you a tip on painting slot cars as painting is the weakest part of my building. But here’s a reply to the bottom of your post with a saying I always enjoy.

“People seem pretty normal until you get to know them”

Define normal.
Cheers,

Yep, I have done a few RC bodies and it is essentially the same process for slot car bodies (ie. the clear type bodies). It’s pretty much the reverse of the sequence used for “normal” models.

Firstly, you need to use paints specifically formulated for clear polycarbonate bodies - this is because the bodies flex when they take an impact. - conventional model paints will crack and flake. For example, Tamiya make a “PS” series of spray cans and a “PC” range of brushable acrylic based paints specifically for clear bodies.

Paint from the inside, starting with the darker colors first and then adding the lighter colors. If painting a design or pattern on the “inside”, then it should be done before painting the overall “base” color.

Check around the R/C sites and forums, eg. http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=114 for discussions about body painting.

Thanks!!!
