Hey!
I am and have been looking for a GOOD QUALITY 1/48 kit of the Me 163 Komet. So far, the only available option that I have seen is the Testors’ version. HOWEVER, my past experience with Testors’ has been well, to put it LIGHTLY, “poor”. [We will leave it at that.] Is this kit any different than the other Testors’ kits??
I have heard that DML/Dragon has/had a pretty good kit, but I have never really seen one in the stores or built. I know that they are either out of production or rare. {Anybody have one they would be willing to part with for a fair price?? Let me know, please.} Has anyone built this kit, or know anything about it?
I have also seen a Trimaster kit for sale online–but have never really heard anything specific about Trimaster…any input??
Also, rumor has it that Revell-Monogram or Revell Germany has or is about to put out a 1/48 Komet kit–but I cannot find any info on it from the companies or anyone else! Anybody know anything that I don’t???
BASICALLY, can anyone recommend {or sell} a quality 1/48 Me163 Komet kit?? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.
P.S. Does anybody know if the aftermarket resin and photoetch kits (details and conversions for B and S versions) for the elusive “Monogram Komet” would work for the Testors’ kit??
ok the Trimaster kit is the same as the DML\Dragon. Trimaster issued the kit with white metal and photoetched details. dragon made the white metal details out of plastic with photoetch details. some of the latest ones don’t have the etch details for some reason. It is a good kit though, but the Tri one is more of a collectors piece and may not by worth the money that they are asking if you plan to build it.
Hey senojrn,
I started the Me163 about a year ago. I was at the dry fitting stage and had to put her down for a while.
It could only be me but it seems that the interior does not fit properly in tune w/ the aligning pegs!! If I remember correctly, I had some other fit issues elsewhere.
Anywho I can see the 163 sitting on the shelf and I think its calling my name. Maybe it will be in the “to do” list in the near future?
It is an overall good looking a/c interms of detailing goes but the fit is the thing that gets me. I know I know I’m a modeler[:p]
BTW speaking of the Me 163, I saw a few at my LHS the other day.
Flaps up, Mike
If you look at the inside of the fuselage and wing parts of the Dragon kit, you can see it was orginally designed with internal detail in mind. There are thinned areas to cut the panels open. Yet neither Trimaster, Dragon, nor any aftermarket company ever made details to go in there! Too bad.
senojrn - Can you disclose where you found the Trimaster kit? I would be extremely interested in aquiring one. Trimaster is my favorite kitmaker, above Hasegawa & Tamiya. You can e-mail me at : bi55ll@comcast.net
Thanks.
The original Trimaster kit was reissued by Dragon/DML several yearsago and then reissued by Revell-Germany about two years ago. Trimaster and Dragon also released the two seat trainer version. The Revell reissue was never generally available in the US. I have only built the Dragon/DML version. Very nice detail, but some challenges relative to fit. For the experienced modeller but does look good when completed. The Trimaster kit is now a Collectors Kit and is pretty expensive, if you can find one. The Dragon/DML release has been OOP for quite a while, but with the recent re-releases of several of their kits, the Komet may show up again someday.
