I built this one from a pretty crummy Revell kit in 1/32 scale I believe, and it came with the Calliope rocket launcher which I didn’t use. I think I added an ejection port to the turret from a Tamiya 1/35 Sherman, and the umbrella was made from a toothpick, some tag wire, and tissue paper. The rest is just the original kit painted and weathered with Model Master paints from spray cans and bottles. My inspiration for this one came out of the color drawings in the center of Squadron/Signal “Sherman In Action”. The markings are Verlinden. Actually, it don’t look half bad when it’s all finished either and I’ve never been afraid of a little work. Gary
Looks good, I really like the umbrella, it turned out well. I have thought about recreating that pic too, but wasn’t too sure how to go about it. The weathering looks spot on. Overall a great job!
looks great, i have 4 in the stash and i am going to get many more. so that should tell you how much i like the sherman. in the stash i have a m4a3 105, m4a4 with 60 lb rocket, m-36b1 tank destroyer and a m-32 recovery vecihle. so see i to like the sherman
I have not drank the Sherman “Kool Aid” per say. However, I have a few in my stash. I started the Tamiya 1/35th M4A3 105mm today.
In my stash are all of the Creighton Abrams “Thunderbolt” Sherman tanks that DML has put out. My intent is to eventually build every tank that Abrams has crewed/commanded.
I also have a soft spot for the Israeli “Isherman”.
Great build by the way. I just love the umbrella!!
Hey guys, thanks much for thr good comments! I got into the awesome variations of the Sherman. I’ve got 18 different ones and all but one is finished. On my shelf in the garage are enough boxes to keep me going on Shermans and variants for a very long time. Like an early M7 for instance with the 3 piece transmission cover. Please keep watching out for my posts. I’ll try to come up with something I can post very soon. (I might have a picture of my M32B2 welded hull tank recovery vehicle.) Gary
The old Monogram kit looks good, maybe it’s the photos, but it doesn’t look like you weathered the tracks or painted them at all. The end connectors are normally a metallic color and the rubber track blocks are usually dusty like a truck in a construction zone.
