Hey y’all! Does anyone know any good shops in Tokyo? I’m heading out tomorrow, and I wanted to put some stuff on my radar. I have Yodabashi Akiba down, and my dad and I were going to check out the Gundam Base (I’ve gone but he hasn’t). I know there’s a lot of stuff in Akihabara and Shibuya, but are any specific shops?
I’m mostly a mecha/airliner guy, so I was hoping to grab some 1/200 airliners for cheap. Let me know! Thanks in advance.
When I went last year, I noticed a decline in scale models and a rise in blingy anime merch almost everywhere.
Your best bet for airliner kits in Akihabara is Yodobashi Camera. Then go to Leonardo LG.
Volks probably has the best quality mecha kits. Surugaya Specialty Store has the best Gunpla selection, but at scalper prices.
Yellow Sub has gone full blingy anime. You never go full blingy anime. Yamashiro-Ya in Ueno - they were a great scale and mecha shop. Prices were retail but the selection was good. They went full blingy anime. So much so that it has been crossed off my list of hobby shops.
Tam Tam is also worth checking out for both scale and mecha kits.
Please share your fav shops in Shibyua. The only places I go there are Tokyu Hands, Mandarake, Tower Records, and of course a stroll across the infamous scramble crossing at 4:00 pm.
@mrb865 Thanks! I’ll check that one out! I completely forgot! @RealG yeah, I’ve only been to Mandarake and Yellow sub. Thanks! I’ll be sure to check out Leonardo LG!
If you have time, get on the Chuo Line and head west to Kiya Hobby and Nakano Broadway. Nakano Broadway is made up of many stores. I have not been to either but will go there in May.
I’ll throw in Bic Camera store in Akihabara if you are in that area anyway. As well, Leonardo has two stores in that area, a block or so apart. One is mostly new product, the other is older, out of production, hard to find things.
