Any Phantom Experts in here? Dumb question huh?

I just got back from my LHS and picked up for $7.00 a Revell of Germany 1/72nd RF-4E Phantom “tigermeet” I opened it and looks cool, put the Decals!!! Whoa Nelly! Has anyone put this beast together? These decals cover half the bird. Just wondering how much fun i’m gonna have

Jim

Probably lots of it. That is a pretty good kit. Berny13 is the resident Phantom expert if you have specific questions

[#ditto] Yep I think berny has every detail of each version somewhere in his memory. Any specific questions and he will have the answer.

Once he comes back online in a week. He’s being renoed! But he’s your man as he’s a phormer phantom phixer.

[#ditto] I concur whole-heartedly!! Berny’s the MAN!!!

YAY!!! I knew someone had to know of someone or something. Here are a couple of pics. See what i mean about the decals???

WOW, that is some decal sheet. Only the brave need apply

If I had that kit, I might be tempted to have a go at airbrushing it instead as it might be a bit less hassle in the end? Would hate to get most of the decals on & wreck the last one.

Certainly is an eye catching scheme though, that is for sure.

You might be safer making masks and airbrushing tiger stripes, might be less painful. It may be a bit more time consuming but the results would be worth it.

My advice? Paint the stripes. And to get that irregular shape, don’t spend hours (days?) cutting out masking tape. Repeat after me:

“Silly Putty is my friend.”

Go ahead. Say it.

You did? Goooood. You shouldn’t have any problems! [:D]

(A word to the wise, though- don’t paint the black first. But you knew that, right?)

Don’t paint straight yellow, though, either. Paint it white first (gives suprisingly better coverage), then tint it with the yellow afterward. Mask with silly putty, and finish up with black. Done.

Or, you could always just use the decals. If you’re feelin’ lucky!

In any case, good luck with the project! She looks pretty sweet!

Always knew that Bernie would renew. Even if Logan was first!

In 1/72 scale, you shouldn’t have that much problem using the decals. Work slow and use plenty of water on the model so the decals will slide easy. There are a lot of members that can give you advice on how to apply the decals.
