Any love for 1/144 scale out there?

I just went a little nuts over at Great Models Webstore and bought the following in 1/144 scale: SU-25 Frogfoot, Mig-23 Flogger, Mig-29 Fulcrum, B-58A Hustler, F-14A Black Bunny, USN F-14 Tomcat, Su-22 M-4 Fitter K, Su-27 Navy Flanker, Tupolev Tu.22M Backfire C, and an S-37 Berkut.

I’ve found that I really enjoy this scale as they are quick builds, and I can really focus on improving my finishing skills. Plus, the size makes them easier to collect as I don’t have a lot of room to display them in my work area.

My only real regret is there isn’t room for a lot of cockpit detail, although I’m going to try my hand at some scratchbuilt stuff and see what can be done.

not really a big fan of 1/144 but thier are a few i am eying. thats why i like 1/72 its got some detal to cockpits and their are more subjects to choose from[:D][:D]

The scale is too small for my failing eyesight & stubby fingers, but there are several kits I’ve thought about building. Espacially the big Bombers like B-36 & 52, which are huge in 1/72 scale.

Regards, Rick

Ya I like the 1/144 airliners I have a quit of few kits weighting to be build when I get the time I like the many different decals they have for them My space for 1/72 is running out

I love 1/144 scale! I have loads of kits to build in this scale. If only Hobbycraft/Academy would do more… What I don’t like in this scale is that too many kits don’t have a cockpit, just a blanking plate

Yah, wih the cheesy little pilot head stuck to it. Boo!

But, that’s just an extra challenge to do it myself…of course…it will drive me crazy, but oh well.

I’m starting to get into them. Here’s the trumpeter F-86. It builds up pretty well.

They are fun for building variants out of stock kits, so little to change and so few parts to manufacture!! I took a P-51 and converted it to the COIN turbo prop version, looked really nice.

how big is it compared to a 1:72 scale tank (WWII size)

Next to a tank, I’d guess about the same size. Aircraft are generally way bigger than tanks. I enjoy building 1/144 scale tanks often, and would love to try my hand at the aircraft too! I have build allot of aircraft over the years, and have set them aside for tank models.[V] But I sould get back to my roots!

I have 2 B-52’s, a B-2, and a B-58 in 1/144. I think Vautour builds in teeny scale too.

We are THE MAPACHES (racoons) are 144 fans, the interiors to be detailed, depends on the model and in to your patience , here are some picturs of our models and some domifications , want to talk about 144 , lets talk, it will be fun

I think that space is just to be full used with this scale, Eduard do really good models in 144, i don´t like the air liners, and I in 1/72 virtually propeller WWII axis aircraft, but in 1/144 i can build jets and jet fighters,

I got a bunch of 1/144 kits. Over here in Japan Bandai makes a Wing Club brand. Mostly sold in the 7-11’s. Arii also makes some good kits. There’s is mostly modern, while the Bandai kits are from WWII. That reminds me. Anyone find a site/company for 1/144 decals? I know J-Hulk asked this question some time ago, just wondering if anyone found out anything since. I need some different markings for all the Zeros & Bf 109’s that I have![:D] Thanks - Calvin

I did manage to find a nice 1/144 scale weapons set by Arii. Just bombs 'n ejector racks but still handy.[:p]

I just bought a 1/100 F-4EJ from Tamiya the other day, and its a decent size… Only problem there isnt much to choose from… I only bought this 1/100 model to go in a diorama with one of my 1/100 Gundam models… Dont know if I would be all that keen on 1/144… But if its what you like, and you can get your hands on a large range of kits, then i say more power to ya!.. I like 1/72, as 1/48 always seems a little toyish to me…

One of the one-coin shops close to me has currently 5 1/144 planes on offer.
Might go and get them they are Mig-29, F4-E, Sepecat Jaguar and 2 WWI planes.

Rather crude and blister packed, but I see that the Mig-29 and F4-E got some semblance of a cockpit(Mig-29 = Tub, Seat and Stick) naturally weapons and decals are included.
Reckon with a bit of TLC they should build ok and at that price …

Kinda brings back memories of the 1/144 Harrier kit with the 2-piece canopy so that it could be displayed open.

I love 1/144!
There are some incredible decal sheets for airliners out there - I’ve been building and selling them for years.
There’s also a large model shop here in Melbourne that specialises in built up airliners - mostly 1/144, but some smaller and some much larger.
I’ve not yet built any warplanes in the scale - I’m looking forward to seeing some - there was a fantastic pic in a very FSM of a very well built 1/144 B-25. I have to have that model. Just don’t tell my wife.

SOME guys in Australia , do 1/144 armament for usaf, and Soviet planes, in resin,

here we love the Dragon models , some academy and of course ARII

Oz Models do a nice little 1/144 Mig-15 in this scale.

And the new Revell of Germany 1/144 Canadair Challenger 604 is probably going to be a very good kit. (I’ve always wanted my own executive jet!)
