I’m currently on the lookout for a kit of the IL-4, I know that zvezda makes one in 1/72, but I’m more in the market for 1/48, and besides the scale issue, I have absolutely no experience with Zvezda, so any comments on the quality of that manufacterer ar welcome too.
Well I am not shure if this is the same aircraft you are talking about but I think the Acurate Miniatures makes a 1/48 IL-4, this kit is very very nice and the best out there. Lots of detail good markings choices and two different versions to choose from (A double seater and a single seater). The kit runs at about 40$ at a hobby shop but I have seen them go for as low as 20$ at swap meets.
Hope I described the right aircraft for you, and that your hunt goes well.

Hi Vintage, unfortunately the IL that AM makes is the IL-2 Sturmovik, the one I’m looking for is a twin engined a/c that looks a little like an Me-110.
Hi Dan,
Can’t answer your question, but it’s fun to see other Belgian people…

Buying a Zvezda kit is basically a roll of the dice. I understand that their newer kits are much better but the earlier stuff is nothing to write home about. Accurate shapes but not much refinement and raised panel lines. I don’t know where your IL-4 fits in. Wish I could be of more help.
Well I am sorry I gave you some false hope there for a second, I dont know a thing about the Russian aircraft of WW2 or modern for that matter [:D] Just thought Id give it a shot. Oh and I have seen the aircraft you are talking about never knew its designation but have seen it on the Military channel.
Well I hope a kit surfaces and best of luck to you.

I can’t picture in my mind what an IL-4 looks like, but its NATO code name is “Bob”, so it is a propeller driven bomber. I’ll see if I can dig up anthing else on it.

There’s 14 pics here of the real aircraft.

I’ve never heard of it available as an injected kit, but there may be a vac out there somewhere.
Here’s one I found on ebay. Unfortunately, it’s not 1/48 and may just be a re-boxing of the Zvezda kit you mentioned but if you really want one, it looks like 1/72 is your only choice. http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1189&item=5963234922&rd=1
I think Sanger has a 1/48 IL-4 in vacuum form. A quick trip to their, or Hannant’s, web site should tell you for sure.
I was not aware that Zvezda had a 1/72 IL-4, the only one I was aware of was an ancient one from long gone East German manufacturer, VEB Plasticart.
Good luck in your search
