any ideas?

I mainly model armor and helis because with aircraft, i screw things up one way or another. This sounds like a very dumb question but what model plane can you think of that has an easy to mask and paint canopy, an easy paintjob, and sturdy landing gear (i always break those) ?

That sounds to me like a bubble top P-47. Even some of the D Mustangs were O.D. and Neutral gray.

Well, with Eduards canopy masks, pretty much any canopy is easy to paint these days. They’re pre-cut masks that you apply to the canopy and burnish down. Paint and you’re done.

For a very simple paint job, look for something in late navy service as they were all dark sea blue. It’s kinda hard to mess up a single, dark color paintjob.

As for landing gear, they’re pretty much all the same. Just do what I do and attach the gears and flaps last.

I’d recommend either an F6F-5 Hellcat or an F4U-4 Corsair. Both came in the dark sea blue color scheme.

Oooooh helis give me the willies just thinking about have to beal with all those clear parts! A/c should be a walk in the park!- especially fiighters with one silly little canopy to deal with! If you build in 1/48th pick up a fall together tamiya corsair, or wildcat and have a blast!

Are you looking for WWII a/c only?

My local hobby shop is mainly an r/c guys place so they don’t carry many model accessories like eduard canopy masks. Thanks, i’ll go grab a corsair or a hellcat or some other late navy plane. Tanks get boring and i need a break from helis every now and then.

WWII and Vietnam…I’d do anything if i could find a OV-10 Bronco or a Skyraider. haven’t ever seen any.

What scale A-1 or OV-10?

I don’t have any LHSs, so all my purchasing is done online. I get most of my kits and paints from megahobby and aftermarket stuff (masks, photoetch, resin) from squadron.com

Squadron is IMPOSSIBLE unless you know exactly what you want because you have to search for it…if you’re just lookin for stuff, theres no way to view all the items. But ill go look for canopy masks.

Squadron is easy enough if you have any idea what you’re looking for.

For canopy masks, look under aircraft accessories, the scale of the model, manufacturer is eduard and keyword search on the plane type (f6f, f4u, etc.).

Once you figure out how they operate, you can pretty much find what you need in a matter of minutes.

A Monogram 1/72 SR-71 Blackbird with drone.

It needs no paint and has very few clear parts, molded in cockpit framing, and sturdy and simple landing gear.

You can build it and decal it on one Saturday, let the decals set-up overnight, clear-coat it the following Sunday afternoon, done and dry before Monday gets here.

Post edit:

Be sure to get some Testors Clear Parts cement. at the LHS while you are at it. [;)]

It can be a pain finding accesories on the Squadron sight but here is a trick. Say you decided to do the Tamiya 1/48 Corsair. Search 1/48 Aircraft Tamiya. It will pull up all of there 1/48 offerings. Scroll down until you find the Corsair and click on the part number. it will open up a big window with a detail decription of the item. On the bottom of the page will be listed all detail items that pertain to that kit from photo etch to Squadron books. It is the easiest way I have found to find the detail items for a particular kit.

Lol terrific, that was my first or second model i ever built…you guessed it. The landing gear broke. [V] Shame on me…maybe ill go pick up some of those eduard canopy masks and try them for myself.
