I enjoy modeling armor in 1/35th but now I want to jump into dioramas and dropping $100+ on a single project is something I’m just not that happy with for now. But working in the 1/72 scale is completly acceptable.
Anybody out there have any advice on 1/72 dioramas?
I’ve worked on single projects in this scale but nothing with any real detail.
I’m a modelbuilder since over 40 years now, and I never build anything else than 1:72 and I’m not intending to do so. For me this scale is the best simply because I can add a lot of models to my collection without being afraid to build a new house every 5-10 years because I’m running out of space. Building Dios is perhaps the greates fun for me, that way I can build as much as possible from scratch and that is what I like the most
So have fun, do not spent to much money, insteadtry to build as much as possible by yourself and you will perhaps have as much fun as I do.
1/72 scale is my favorite as well. Models and figures are reasonably priced. I prefer scratch-building the rest…my big question regarding 1/72 scale: Any tried and true methods for modifying figures in this scale? The figure sets are pretty limited in availability of poses…I have chopped off heads but not much luck with appendages!
'Bout the same as for 1/48th and 1/35th… with arms and legs, I usually “weld” the appendages on by setting them on fire and quickly blow it out them sticking to the figure in the desire angle/pose… A bit of putty will fill it out where it goes “spaghetti”… Might wanna prcatice with that method though…
I’ve done several 1/72 dio’s–mostly, I like to keep them small, like less than 8" square. There are some awesome possibilites, with all the new products and figures coming out the last few years. Here’s a few examples of stuff I’ve done over the years;
I read through your thread very carefully yesterday and am waiting eagerly for more updates. I can’t say how amazed I am at the talent you are showing in your very fine work.
Karma I’ve built an Italeri 1/72 JSU152 and a Fujimi 1/76 late Tiger I and I’m currently working on the DML Sturmtiger after that I have a KV1s both 1/72. I had never built small scale till I won the JSU in a raffle at one of the shows I was attending and decided to give it a try. I’ve found them to be an enjoyable change of pace in-between my usual 1/35 builds.
Here are a couple of pics of my 152 and Tiger.
I havent done figs yet in this scale but Priser has some that look very nice.
I like to build 1/72 too, although I’m more of a modern + aviation guy, so the dio that I am doing, but is on hold b/c of college, is the fast roping diorama. Bodge, I must admit, I love your groundwork, it is absolutely stunning. I couldn’t believe it the first time I saw it…
Here’s two pics from my fast roping dio…
It’s always nice to see that there are many other 1/72 builders out there, and the quality is just breath taking…
