I was just wondering, why can’t we have anti-slip coating just like the zimmerit that manufacturers make which we can just just fit to the surfaces of a modern tank.
Depends on the kit. The Dragon Abrams kits have no slip coating on the upper surfaces as does the Italeri M1A2 kit.
Remember, zimmerit has been around since WW2 and it is now just being molded onto kits. No slip arrived in the late 80s but only became standard through the 1990s.
Good point. As Rob says, there are a handful of kits that include it, but as I know, my Tamiya M1 doesn’t. There must be a market for it.
Its easy enough to add yourself.
If the manufacturers add the texture, you can add another 10-15.00 to the kit price… I’ve always done it by adding talc to the paint in a mixing cup and just brushing it on… Doesn’t matter what color since you’re gonna paint over it anyway… I’ve also done it with liquid cement and a srtippling brush…
Personally, I think the Terra-cotta stuff is a bit out of scale, but it’s close, I reckon… shrug

I tried Gino’s terra-cotta spray technique a few months back, and I thought it came out pretty good. Posted comparison pix below. As Hans said, I don’t know that the scale is right on, but at 1/35 it may help to exaggerate the texture; it get’s lost otherwise. I suppose the thing I like about it is that it will be consistent from one end of the piece to the other, and that it easy to apply once it is masked.
