Antenna Wire

Hello…I am building a 1/48th scale SB2C-1C Helldiver and want to rig it with the antenna wire. In the past I have used stretched sprue to do this but it does not hold up nor does it look good. What suggestions does anyone have for the wire and connectors? Thanks. myscout

Personally I leave the wires off. I only install them (stretched sprue) when they are needed for a photo shoot.

I’ve seen everything from fine wire, thread, hair from a horses tail, fishline, christmas tree ‘angel hair’, stretchy line to stretched glass. No matter what you use it will be fragile and the less fragile material quickly loses its ‘scale’ realism because of the larger diameter.

I bought a spool of 24ga. electrical wire from RadioShack. Cut off the outer insulation and use individual strands for the aerials. Once attached, they don’t sag or droop and you don’t have to worry about trying to achieve a uniform thickness like with stretched sprue.

Use the smallest bit in a pinvise and drill anchor holes. Slip the wire through, tie it off and you’re done.

I use knitting-in elastic. It’s very thin and stretchy and it glues easily and quickly with superglue.

I’ve settled on fishing line colored with a silver marker.

What is knitting-in elastic? Never heard of it.

Any particular # test?

You can buy it at Walmart for only $3 and it will last you for years. It’s very thin and perfect for 1/48 scale planes.

It can be thinned by stretching and it won’t break easily. Sweet, eh? [:)]

I learned about that at ARC website, www.aircraftresourcecenter.com.
