Antenna wire size

I bought .011 dia fishing line. Is this a good general size to use for the antenna wire?

It should be ok…only way to know for sure is to put it on and see. You can always change it.

That’s about 3/4 inch in 1/72 and 1/2 inch in 1/48, a bit big. I use .004 in 1/72, which is about 1/4 inch.

I don’t know about military aircraft, but civilian aircraft of the WWII era used antenna wire that was probably 1/16" to 1/8" in diameter. You would have to use something hair thin to match that (about 0.002" at 1/72 scale), so it is generally accepted that the wire diameter is going to be out of scale.

I use “Invisible Thread” for wire antennas (thanks to someone who mentioned that on this forum!), but I’m not sure how big it is in diameter. You can find it at most stores that sell sewing supplies.
