Antenna length

i was just wondering, if you put 10 similar tanks side by side, are there antenna got equal lengths?

as far as I know, yes. I was in a transportation unit in the Army for 4 years and all of the antennas for our Hummers were tha same models and lengths so I would have to say that depending on the type of comm equipment and vehicle, they should be the same.

CTFW420 is correct. The majority of antennas are the same length. Some vehicles will have different lengths for different equipment. Usually when you see different types of antennas it is due to theater specific equipment.

While we’re on antennae, I have a Futaba 40Mhz receiver with a broken/cut aerial that I would like to use - can anyone tell me the correct length of aerial cable I would need to attach to the receiver unit - I’ve had a look at various sites, and some say it should be 5 feet !! - would look a bit weird on a 1/16 Tiger !! (Also, just to confirm, what would be the correct aerial length for a 35Mhz receiver too - how do you calculate ?). Assume you guys just wrap the aerial lead around the inside of the tank (?) without using the Tamiya supplied stick-aerial ? Is there a good/bad way of doing this ?

Cheers for any help.

thanks sir! i am making antenna from a guitar string and i don’t know how long i’d cut it… it’s for my M41 , M60 A1 and M151A1 (am not sure if it’s correct…it’s a jeep…i threw the box after i finished it and i forgot what model is it…errr) [banghead]

Current antennas are about 7-8 feet long, comes to about two 1/2 inches in 1/35th scale. Looks about right for all antennas, that is what I use.

thanks Heavy Arty!

nice builds you got on your site!

For 40Mhz, you want about a 73-inch long antenna. Obviously this will not be practical, so I would suggest dividing that number by any multiple of 2. eg: 36.5 inches, 18.25, or 9.125. For 35Mhz, you should try 84 inches, and perform the same calculations. As to what It should be made off… well, that is up to you. I have no idea what would be best… I am thinking gold. However, any conducting material should work just fine.

Good luck

I concur with Gino on R/T antenna length, but on receiver only radio equipment the length is about 4and a 1/2 feet. That equipment is called an Aux. by U.S. tankers and it’s the antenna mounted in front of your loaders hatch on the M60A1.

Cheers edog - I’ve mixed up the thread a bit, but you’ve given me what I’m after
