During the development stages of this Helo the concept that was being looked into was that of jet propulsion and how it could be adpted to helicopters. The Sikorsky engineers were at work on trying to make this concept a reality. Sikorsky produced two of the worlds first ramjet helicopters of this type ,which were ordered by the Air Force. Although all testing was sucessful the two specific disadvanteges that prevented this helo from achieveing production status was the tremendous noise and very high fuel consumption.
