So… Dragon aus A Panther box art depicts Italian campaign vehicle with what appears to be FACTORY zim. The application looks “checkerboard” perfect. I can’t find any period pics depicting this zim application. I really want to replicate this on my build. Also, box art shows front fenders covered as well, is this correct? Any input will be much appreciated.

That zim applacation was used not sure on the A’s though I have a few books( I will do some digging) with it and the waffle pattern on (jagdpanther though) and also built my panther with the checkerboard here is a pic

Thanks for the response, can I find out how you applied (and what you used) the zim. what’s the secret to keeping everything 90/90?
I used tamiya’s polyester putty tamyia’s zim tool, scriber and a metal edge ruler to do the square’s…now there is metal etched and resin zim as well as I found out after I did this kit, the resin form is from cavalier that I used on my tiger1 they have all kinds of different patterns. Some are just sheets of zim and others arefor the specific tank verliendin makes photo etched I beleive and do some others If you can findthe FSM issue may 2002 there is a great artical on zimmin.and the ruler is the secret. If this is your first zimm it is by far easier than itlooks compared to the usual.

Zimmerit on fenders is not common, but it was done. If a crew had extra to go around they would sometimes put zim on their fenders. NOT common at all, but it was done…
hey guys, thanks again for taking the time to shepard my ignorance. I still am puzzled by the pattern on the Dragon aus A box art. Thundergod: that is awesome looking zim in your pic, I can see the very detailed 90/90 application. However, the application is still “rippled” within the pattern. I am still searching for a reference photo replicating what I see on the kit box art. No “rippling”, just checkerboard with a smooth applique? If this is accurate, I would really like to represent it on my model, as it would satisfy my thirst for a little “uniqueness”. I’ll keep looking. I really don’t want to coat those PE fenders I just ordered with zim, thanks armor master.

Zimereting the front fenders was a common practise on early Panthers but it broke of easy
its a great kit im building one at the moment there are more Panther links in the Panther group build and some advise adout the Dragon Panther A early
theres a photo of the real Panther from the box top in the Tankpower Panther vol 4 on page 51
