I can identify almost anything that commonly flys, and quite a few things that are not so common. However, today something flew over my house that I have never seen before. I know somebody here can tell me what it was.
Whatever it was resembled a Beech Starship 2000, except it had a straight canard wing rather than the swept wing on the Beech. I couldn’t tell if the engines were piston or turboprop, but my guess is piston. The props were making quite a bit more prop noise than you usually hear. The props were rear facing. Did Beech make a straight canard version?
A Piaggio P180 Avanti. Once a struggling company, Piaggio has found new life since Ferrari took ownership of it.
Do a Google search for it and you will find many more images of it.
I saw one of these fly overhead on approach to Aspen last fall, but didn’t have my camera at hand. Took me a while to realize what it was. You don’t see them very often.
This is the closest thing I can think of to what you may have seen.
For more info on the Beech Starship and other similar A/C, pick up the latest (September) issue of Air and Space Smithsonian.
ChemMan - (Sorry, I spelled your name wrong earlier)…That’s for sure. The article in Air & Space (www.airspacemag.com) told of a Starship owner who got a call on the radio from an Air Force jet that wanted to pull alongside. It turned out to be a B-2 bomber, and the pilot was taking pics of the Starship. Now, that’s very cool in my book!!! Read the whole story in the issue I referred to (have to give credit for the source, you know).
So, another reminder for both of us…have a camera in hand.
