Here’s my latest Tamiya’s old T34/76 early model. Yes another one LOL! What a pain in the you know where dealing with the old motorization parts and what not. I am starting to despise their tracks but again didn’t want to spend $$ for this one. I just finished painting and applying washes and drybrushing. This is OOB and was intended as a test bed for my airbrushing techniques. I hate dark plastic so I primed with auto primer, preshaded with black, and filled in from there with different greens. Tamiya paint does NOT mix with my generic laquer thinner, so I used their acrylic thinner. Go figure. Anyway enjoy!
Good start. I like the preshade. I feel your pain on the old motorization compromises. I stay away from the older tamiya kits anymore. Of course, I built many of them as a kid such as their T-34’s.
Spent a few hours making it look like I think it should. Hand painted markings. Pastels mixed with alcohol, brushed on and allowed to dry. Real dirt from my backyard, dark brown craft paint, white glue and matt varnish. Mix and slop on !! Real tree limb from the same yard, tissue paper tarp with tape straps. I’m not sure if my techniques are “orthodox” but I like it.
Well what do you all think? I’ve never weathered a tank this much before. I wasn’t real sure of myself but I enjoyed pushing myself and testing my limits.
Are ya having fun? Good! That’s half of what weathering is about!
I think it looks great–the only thing I would say to be wary of is the inclination to just weather-up a vehicle without thinking how and where exactly the weathering got where it should go.The “plumes” of dirt on the front hull there are plausible, but be careful of putting thick mud applications on top of hull surfaces. Generally, dirt doesn’t get “thrown” up on top there so much—but like I said–it’s plausible; it could have been tracked there by crewmen.
Not a critique; just a thought to keep in mind in the future! [:D]
Wayne sounds pretty orthodox to me[^]. Your painting and weathering look fantastic.
Man for an oob build you’ve done a great job on one of the classics[tup].
One bit of info that people should know about the Tamiya T/34 series kits. The eyelet tow shackles on the front should not be there. They were something that the US military added. When Tamiya took the pics of the one at Aberdeen I guess nobody bothered to tell them.
Doog I beg to differ friend. I’ve driven a track and hit a pool of mud doing about thirty. The result, one of the most PO’ed TC’s you’d never want to meet.
Dude…masterful work on the finish…love the weathering and other extras you did, such as the tarp…I still build that particular Tamiya T-34, as it still has some of the finest surface texturing and weld detail around…nice work…
agentg: It brings a tear to my eye seeing one of my “kids” all grown up…[BH]
This is looking good Wayne!, I like the extra armor, the mud and ESPECIALLY the tarp and strap…that is some top-notch stuff…share a tip on how you weathered it?! I’ve used tissue tarps but not with the success you’ve got going there!
The stick is so-so, IMO… nice from the front, nice line, but not so great from the rear.
