Another Somalia Question

Did the Blackhawks in Somalia have the pilot sheilds at that time? The sheild was between the pilot and his door. Did they have the doors on? All the pictures I see show the birds with no doors.

This is Two, we’re movin’

The pictures in the book “Blackhawk Down” show the doors in place with side armor.

I think I answered this in a previous post. I was there for almost 5 months. All Nightstalker birds (60’s and eggs) flew with doors off the entire time I was there. The MH-60’s flew with pilot/co-pilot doors off and balistic shields (armor) in place. Aircrew discretion as to whether you slid it forward or not just prior to take off, but I think it was SOP. The rear crew doors on the MH-60’s were always secured (locked) to the rear. M/AH-6’s had doors off as well.
