Greetings… Been lurking for a bit and figure out I should post to celebrate my first “painted plastic piece” in 25 years…
Last summer, while on family vacation, we stopped at a PX at a military base in PA (Im Navy reserves, MSC, OIF vet). My kid was looking at some Revell kits, I mentioned “I used to build those a long time ago!”… she asks to get some to build since it had been raining for a couple days… sure, why not? I picked up couple easy snap-on kits, and a level 2 Revell plane, a “beginners” pack of cheap brushes and tube of cement, few paints. I also made the “mistake” of picking up this magazine I never heard off 
… in short, 6 months and $400 later in supplies (Shh, dont tell the wife!), I painted my first piece in 25 years…
Let me just say… my, has the hobby changed a bit! I also have to thank the many contributors in here, I have learned a ton since my 'return", most of my questions had been “answered” in the various forums… Now, for my new question! I have half a dozen Revell Monogram kits (military themes), couple planes 1:48, couple ships… all “level 2”. I figure I could use some easy/cheap kits to re-start my modeling and try some techniques Ive never used, like weathering, wash, etc. I also picked up a large lot of Tamiya WW2 Armor kits (~25). Here is my question… its obvious that the Revell kits are “low end/beginners”, and the Tamiya kits are “higher end/advanced”. What brand of kits should I get “in between”? My main interest is military themes, WW2, Navy ships & planes… I will NOT be using an airbrush anytime soon due to where I build; I am also only interested in “good ole” plastic for the momment.

PS. One last question… does anyone still use those cement tubes?
