Inspired by Daywalkers amazing ‘Emil’, I’ve embarked on a new project, a 1/48 109E-3 with some very colorful markings. My question is this…this particular aircraft had the Peil Gerät IV antenna fairing mounted to it (looks like a bulge on the underbelly just aft of the wings) and so far am having no luck finding any decent pics of this piece of equipment (in fact this is the first time I’d even heard of it). I would like to scratchbuild one to mount to my Emil but have no idea what it looks like except for a single one-dimensional side view line drawing. Is anyone familiar with this type of antenna? TIA
Well, I thought I WAS a 109 Guru till you asked that! [:D]
LOL! Same here, John! I checked all my references and did every internet search known to man, and so far not a single result. All my internet searches keep asking me to check my spelling again! Heck, I even included the umlaut!
Ruddrantt I know what your talking about Peil IV antenna blister sit under the fuselage It looks like the mount for a DF loop but larger, mounted to the second segment. I have a pic of a JG77 Emil with this antanna mounted to it. IF I can find it again I’ll post it. I’m at work now so It won’t be till later.
Here’s a link to another’s model with that antenna.

phoenix & Marc - Thanks so much, guys! That is definitely the one I’m looking for. Marc, in fact that’s the very bird I’m building, in 1/48 scale…Herbert Ihlefeld’s mount with the double red chevrons and the red bands on the tail surfaces, using the markings from a Third Group decal sheet (#48-008). Thanks again! [tup]
Ruddratt that’s a better pic than the one I’d be looking for, that’s what it looks like. the pic I had is pretty bad. Not many 109’s were equipted with that it was more common on Ju 87’s. that blister is the cover for Peil G IV antenna for the Fugg VIIa radio system. That’s a good referance, he has it right on the money.
Thanks phoenix. I do appreciate you looking for it. Yeah, I had never heard of that particular piece of equipment, nevermind see one. Your knowledge of it is very impressive! [tup]
Mike-
That is a sharp looking Emil you are going to do, please be sure to post pics as she comes along! I’m glad I was able to inspire you to build one, that has to be the ULTIMATE compliment!
Can do with the pics, Frank. I just hope it turns out half as good as yours. That was an awesome build on your part, and it’ll be a tough act to follow.
