Hi, My name is Tim and I’m a 20yr Navy Vet. I like modeling Military type models(ships, planes, armor). I did most when i was still a teenager started trying my best at diorama’s, but stopped while i was in and starting my family. I’ve retired since then, but still working, and decided to get back into the modeling before i can’t do it anymore. I also started some Plank on Frame ships and Battle stations.
Welcome to the Forums Tim! Glad to have you aboard. Thank you for your service.
Lots of the members got here the same way and are very knowledgeable and ready to help out with any questions or problems that you might have.
I started building at the age of 6 (1946) and never stopped. WWI & WWII planes are my favorites followed closely by sailing ships as you can tell by my avatar (plank on frame) . I build whatever strikes my fancy at the time and the wallet says OK.
Enjoy.

Hi There;
Welcome Aboard. I think you’ll enjoy being here.
Welcome to the Forums!
Welcome to the forum, Tim! Plank-on-frame models? That’s an audacious choice! I look forward to seeing those and your other builds.
Best regards,
brad

Greetings, Tim!
I can’t resist asking - what did you do in the Navy? I started as an Aviation Electronics Technician and wound up as the Chief Engineer on a frigate, with lots of other jobs sprinkled around. For the past umpty years I have focused on 1/700 ships, but I still njoy looking at other peoples’ work of nearly all kinds.
Regards,
Rick
I started off as a Fire Control Tech. Ballistic, then ended up as a Missile Tech. All in subs, and have three ship qualifications under my belt (Lafayette class; James Madison Class; and Ohio). My dad was in destroyers and I was in subs, ironic isn’t it. He was a good man though, even though I out ranked him (he only made E3 where I made it to E5 doing E6 and higher work at times). But all in all I enjoyed my time in and in some aspects I miss it a little. Now when I can I work in plank in frame models(from model expo), and some plastic in various scales.
Thank you for your service!!!
