So I entered my Imai Junk into another popularity contest on Facebook…
1st place has got a serious lead of about 50 votes (yikes!)…but if anyone here wants to support me, please feel free to cast a vote each day for the next 6 days. I’d sure love the $100 Hobbytown gift card prize!
Voters must have a Facebook account, but don’t have to be my friend on Facebook…
It’s the Chinese Junk (you’ll probablt recognize it…I’m currently in 4th place)…it’s a longshot, but I thought I would plead for some support among the forum!
Well, once a day is the limit…but I’ve been trying to persuade my friends and family to share the contest, to see if any of THEIR friends would be kind enough to help out!
It won’t break my heart if I don’t win, but I still have hope!
I just discovered (by a little investigative work of my own) that the guy who’s in first place in the contest is part of some large group of Facebook members who share a network of online contest entries, they basically post a link to the contests (yes, plural) they’re currently entered in, and everyone in the network goes around and votes for everyone else so that they can manipulate the system and overwhelm the legitimate contestants!
What can I say? I was wondering how he could have gotten so many votes ahead!
I look at it like this: If I can finish ahead of the second place person (with whom I’m only behind by a handful of votes), then I will still consider myself the winner! And then I’ll buy myself a Hobbytown USA gift card!
Anyway, I reported it to the contest page, but I don’t know if he’s actually breaking the rules…but it’s just plain unfair and not good sportsmanship!
If anyone wants to help me get into second place, feel free to help out and cast another vote for me…only two more days of voting left!
Thanks for the heads-up, Steve! I just cast my last vote, and that puts me at 1 vote behind second place…
Remember, today is the LAST day for your daily votes…if you want to help, please head over there and cast a final vote, we’ll see if we can get a good push!
Not sure…they closed the contest at some point last night.
It was back and forth between myself and one other guy for 2nd place, but last I checked he was ahead by 6 votes (around 5:00 pm)…
There was, of course, no way anyone was going to catch the 1st place holder, he was playing unfairly.
But I would like to take 2nd, that was the real race!
I expect they’ll post the winner soon, and hopefully they’ll make some kind of honorable mention for the runners-up. I contacted a marketing director for Hobbytown USA and he shared my sentiment that people entering multiple contests and networking with 100s of users to manipulate and overwhelm the competition is unsporting, but it is also NOT against the official rules…which is disheartening to me, and probably to all the other “legitimate” entrants.
“This is a popularity contest, not a model contest. All it takes is coordinating w/ facebook groups to rack up the points (as the latest winner has done). Someone could use a Mr.potato head as their entry and still win. Shame, shame, shame.”
So David, you can’t lose a contest that isn’t a contest, eh?
Well, here we have yet another piece of evidence in support of Tilley’s War Cry: I DON"T BELIEVE IN MODEL CONTESTS. (Please forgive the use of all caps. That was in fact a loud scream.)
