Of late, FSM mags seem to be coming out much much faster, like the Feb 07 issue which is out now in Dec. Here in Australia, my newsagency has jsut recieved its December 06 issues, yet people in the States and other countries already haev Febuary 2007. What is up with this!??
Dude, if I am reading your profile correctly you’re in Australia… it’s going to take a while. I’d be willing to bet they get sent via ship. It takes at least 4 or 5 days through the US post to get it to the docks, get it on a ship, float it all the way across the Pacific Ocean, dock, get inspected and go through customs, get unloaded then and only then does it enter the Australian postal system. I’m sure it takes weeks for all that to happen. I’d be willing to bet that customs is the big variable. I know when we send stuff overseas for work things can get delayed in customs by a week or two. I’ve seen things get hung up in customs in the Bahamas for a month! [:O]
I supose, how much more would it cost them to send it via air?? And, i’ve heard this from other members, why doesn’t FSM stick to the moth its in, not 1 or 2 ahead??
As others have mentioned, if you’re in Australia, you’re quite literally as far away from FSM as you can get and still be on the planet. Sorry for the delay.
If you look at the masthead (on page 5 of most issues) we do offer a Foreign Air/Expedited Delivery Service. It’s an additional $45 US a year.
Hence the explaination which explains why he just received his Dec issue, and his Feb is still floating around in the Pacific somewhere [;)] [:D]
I think a lot of having the issue come out before the actual month probably has a lot to do with a “perceived benefit” to having a subscription, you get it before it appears on store shelves. Also once it hits the shelves, it can be out there circulation for a month or two and still be a “current” issue which stimulates sales as well. Otherwise the issue is “old” after having been on the shelf for a few weeks and is less likely to be sold.
It’s all about marketing my friends. All magazines do that. [:)]
