We need to put more effort into bringing back old members. I announced reopening of forun at last TCAH. Most folks had drifted away, but were glad to hear of reopening. Tell your modeling friends. FSM staff, annouce reoping in mag for a couple of months.

Don, thanks for the big vote of confidence. We’re watching the forum revive quite nicely. We watch traffic closely, and we’re having some very good days. We’re seeing members who haven’t been on in years come back and completely new members. At FSM, we’re working all of our levers, and it’s paying off. Spread the word!
Sad,I know quite a few that have left and that I have met up in other places,and some are so put off that they are done here,but who knows,maybe curiosity will get the best of them.
People come and go—that’s the nature of life. But building and rebuilding is too. There are many, MANY modelers out there, and many of them new to FSM. This can be a place of discovery, not just nostalgia. That’s the goal.
Our plans for the Forum were hampered and foiled by the old site. As frustrated as you were, imagine trying to run a brand and a part of it you should be able to use to talk directly to your people you can’t use because it doesn’t work.
Worse: You. Can’t. Fix. It. No matter how many people complain to you, no matter how angry or nasty emails get, you can’t do anything but try to make it as functional as possible.
We’re past that now. Now, it’s all about what’s next.
Right on. It’s all about keeping the hobby alive and thriving for the next group of modelers. If we stay stuck in the “good old days” past, this site, and others like it, will never grow. Attracting folks to the hobby and to the forums is paramount.
I made a quick reddit post a month back about the forum being back up and the single response I did get back wasnt a pleasant response. I thought I’d get a better response because there are several model building subreddits but then reddit is literally the internet’s rejects so I guess it makes sense.
I just checked my post and it was removed by the mods, it literally said " the new finescale modeler forum is up and running has anyone checked it out yet?" Reddits a rough place.
I’m out on Reddit and I agree with your thoughts on it Demo. Just don’t like the culture.
I literally just found it yesterday purely by accident. I’d been hitting my old desktop link periodically, wondering why I couldn’t log in and why no new topics had been posted for a month or so. I was fearing the worst!
Glad to see it up and running again, all shiny and new (and still trying to figure out how everything works…
). VERY glad to see old familiar handles as well as some newbies, and hope everybody has a marvelous time!

Out of curiosity, have you tried to recover your old account? I know you don’t need it anymore, but considered the possibility. It hasn’t disappeared, as I was reading an old topic and came across “Don_Stauffer” in the comments.

I did indeed recover my old account. Don’t know how- i just happened when i started using the new forum.
