And now for something completely different.........

After a diet of predominantly WWII Luftwaffe aircraft, and following my experience with the Polikarpov I-16 I thought I’d try something a little different.

The kit is by Mirage, a small Polish manufacturer, in 1/48. It comes complete with PE for seat belts, instrument panel and numerous other details as well as resin for the exhaust collector ring. The mouldings are not quite Tamigawa or modern RoG, but good none the less. So I’ve built the wing, a surprisingly weighty affair, as well as the cockpit and most of the engine.

I replced the kit push rods with brass wire, which was, to my ayes at least, a little
more in scale, as well as side support rods to the seat. The photos are not great as my little digicam doesn’t have a zoom function.

I can’t recommend this kit enough, especially at a very reasonable price, and of a prototype that no mainstream manufacturer is ever likely to produce. The only AM addition will be a set of resin wheels from True Details.

Hope you like what I’ve done, all feedback greatfully accepted.

Looks good Karl - that explains the siggy

I really like it so far, thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work and keep us posted on the build.

Looks good Karl, I’ve not seen this kit before, please keep us updated with how it goes.

Nice work so far, should be an interesting model of an obscure bird. I keep waitng for the 1/48 Mirage Pzl-23. Maybe someday.

Regards, Rick

as usual Karl, you’ve redefined obscurity as a uniqueness…
love your subject matter & the skills by which you render…
thanks for the show…[tup] [tup]

Looking good Karl…should be a real eye catcher when done!

Joe

Thanks for your kind comments guys.

Skii, I figured it was time I updated my sig, seeing as I finished the I-16 a few months back!

Tango, Mirage are a new outfit to me, but having read the article on the P24 series fighters in SAM, and then finding the kit, I couldn’t resist.

Dan, the fuselage is together, and I’m playing around with the camo & weathering techniques on an old airframe at the moment.

Rick, from the sheet that came with this kit, it looks as if Mirage intend making a model of every Polish aircraft, so hopefully your wait won’t be too long.

Rik, I like obscure, it’s far harder for people to spot my mistakes!

Joe, this is a nice diversion from panel scribing on my 217. How’s yours going? Did you have any luck getting your hands on the True details wheels?

As I wrote above, the fuslage is together, the wing is now complete, so this week will be clean up, and final assembly, before hopefully kicking off the bulk of the paintwork next weekend.
