and now...35 years later...

I just put my first coat of paint on a WWII German airplane model in 35 years. A little nerve wracking I have to admit but very nice too. Take a 35 year break and see if you rmemeber how to clean your airbrush LOL. I am making progress on my 1/48 109 and being new to the forum I have to say I have gotten a lot of help here so far. I will post pics as soon as there is something to see.

I am curious if anyone else does what I did this time. I have made a list of all the things I did wrong. Not just mental but wrote them down. Most you are at this long enough to know the correct “order” to do some things. Lots of thing needs to be done before the fuselage or wing halves are glued together. I remember never having to look at the instruction sheets. I found that I have made a lot of mistakes. So far nothing major that could not be fixed. Some things that will be seen and others that won’t but I will know they are there and that won’t work in the future.

Looking forward to seeing your build. I keep the top of the box lid of most of the kits I build. On the back of the lid I record the date I completed the build & any notes on construction difficulties, either my errors or those inherent in the kit. I also list the AM detail parts & decals that may have been used. They do take up a bit of storage space but I have found the notes to be useful on several occassions.

Regards, Rick

I know how you feel–much has changed technically and philosophically in model building . I’m working on my first airplane in 27 years (since high school!)–a rather ambitious FW 190D JV44 Galland Circus Red 1. I’m paying so much attention to detail (to the dismay of my wallet) that I don’t think I’ll ever finish the thing. Good luck–I’d love to see how it turns out!

[#Ditto] I’ve been away for some 20+ years and have done my usual trick of biting off more than I can chew. I have a vacformed Wyvern, 1/32nd Mossie that I’m detailing, a Classic Airframes Gloster 28/39 on the go, and lots of other kits stacking up under my desk, ALL of them with resin & PE updates/conversions, and half of them needing re-scribing… I really do know how to pick my subjects!
