An old add

This add was from the late 60s or early 70s:

Had a friend who worked on that ad agency account, in the early 1970s. This ad was supposedly nominated for a Clio award…sort of the advertising industry’s equivalent of the Academy Awards.

One of the reasons why I joined the Army was because of these ads. When I enlisted in the National Guard, I wanted to be a tanker, but the recruiter showed me an M728 Combat Engineer Vehicle (which looks like an M60A1 met a Mad Max movie) and I became a 12F CEV crewman.

Armor in the A.F. was fun to drive wether tracked or wheeled. The hard part was taking the course. That had to be done on your off hours before or after your shift and you had to make each lesson without fail. After a couple weeks with basically no days off and not much sleep, the only ones not pushing exhaustion were the instructors. When finished were one of a few to be able to operate the M-112 qnd M-706E2 with a 13 man reaction team. With me being in Law Enforceent I only got assigned one during alerts or unusual circumstances.

I saw some unusual amor at Camp Bullis, Texas during one of my combat schools in the 70s, I think their number started with a 9, but I’m not sure.
