An Eagle in the R.A.F.

G’day Folks.

This 48 scale Mk Vb Spitfire is the Tamiya kit, mostly built as per instruction’s.
The aircraft deplicted here is that flown by Lt. Don Gentile, of 133 Eagle Squadron of the RAF at Biggin Hill, the name ‘Bukeye Don’ and the 2 kill marks are the victories scored on 2x FW 190’s over Dieppe on August 19 1942.

The spinner was sourced from the spares box as this aircraft was a refitted Mk Ia airframe, the aircraft code ‘T’ was applied to all aircraft flown by this pilot, with minor changes to the stance and background of the eagle. This particular model has been displayed in a shop since it was first built, I have the P 47d Razorback half completed along with the P 51b Mustang. Either the background or the stance of the eagle or the eagle itself are slightly changed between the other aircraft.

The paint for this subject are the old warbird range of aeromaster RAF colours and the decals are the aeromaster ‘Eagle Squadron’ part II set.

All aircraft flown by this particular pilot were relitively clean hence why no weathering

Lobbie, yet another subject I’ve always wanted to do and never rembembering that fact when ordering supplies and kits. Yours is – I don’t want to overdo it here, like calling it “breathtaking” like those kit reviewers in the lousier model magazines who refer to every single kit released as “long awaited”, but I digress. Your Spit is an absulote gem, and is good enough to make me less eager to build my own, no doubt, inferior Eagle Squadron subject. It’s a subject we modelers (and too many historians) have glossed over. But it’s a brief, fascinating, albeit short period when a few Americans helped the gallant Brits hold off the entire Axis until we finally jumped in with both feet. Who made the markings? Or did I overlook that part of your post?

P.S. How did you do that unusual double-strand aerial?

Don is one of my favorites…somehow I missed he flew a Spit. Beautiful build.

Looks nice, Lobbie. Good job on the camo.

Very nice build. Thanks for sharing.

That is one fantastic looking Spitfire, Lobby.
