I’ve finally decided to build an '88 this year. Which would be the best in the market in terms of accuracy?
When you say “88” do you mean the dual role anti-aircraft gun and anti-tank gun? Or do you mean a dedicated anti-tank gun?
Regardless, you have many very accurate options:
Flak:
AFV Club 8.8cm Flak 18
DML 8.8cm Flak 36, 8.8cm Flak 37, 8.8cm Flak 37 (late carriage)
Pak:
AFV Club 8.8cm Pak 43/41
In terms of not needing much, any of the above will get you a very accurate gun. With the addition of a Lionroar or Griffon PE set, you’ll have a superb model.
In my humble opinion the decision to dig in three 88 mm AA guns and fire at armor targets by the Africa Corps. was the most famous action taken by this iconic German weapon.
The back and fourth evolution that seen tanks up-armored only to be defeated by technologically advanced munitions was overshadowed by the mass & kinetic energy of the devastating 88 mm projectile traveling at over 2600 FPS. There was no armor that could withstand a hit. At ranges up to two km. there was nowhere to run nor hide.
The said action in the desert was a one sided victory. Three 88’s completely destroyed a unit of approximately 50 British armored vehicles in less than 15 minutes.
Thus the legend was borne sending fear in adversaries with the mere mention of the two numbers…88
Which ever one you do, please post frequent WIPs with lots of photos!! I look forward to seeing your usual high quality work.
I no honest answer on which one to build… but am looking forward to seeing it[Y]
Roy’s suggestions are all good ones. The DML kits are the best available if you want the most commonly seen Flak versions and there are massive detail sets for them if you really want to go all-out as well. As-is they build up great right out of the box IMHO, just have to watch out for the usual land-mines in the instructions! [;)].
Thanks Roy, reliable as usual. I will probably go for the DML 8.8cm Flak 37 or the AFV Club 8.8cm Pak. Although in terms of artillery and guns, I tend to favor AFV Club.
